Am i the only one that thought if he was driving, and paying attention like any normal person should, he would’ve seen that coming a long way off? It’s cool the tech worked. But obviously he’s no longer with us and that couldve been avoided
Yeah but if the driver of the Tesla had been paying attention (he admits he wasn’t even looking in the trucks direction) instead sitting there expecting a fucking machine to do his job he could have had more than enough time to react defensively.
You didn’t answer his question. The possibility of them hitting you does NOT prevent you from slowing down. Them hitting you is THEM causing their own accident.
If his dash cam caught that truck at that angle in its view finder, he had to have not been paying attention to not see it coming over. Love how the autopilot worked, but to me that type of autonomy is only going to lead to more and more distracted driving
and, the more I watch the BOOM TRUCK MERGE VIDEO seems like old fashion courteous defensive driving may have eliminated any type of interaction.
“I was not able to slow down even more due to the heavy traffic (cars were behind me).”
It is important to note that Tesla disables Autopilot by default and requires explicit acknowledgement that the system is new technology and still in a public beta phase before it can be enabled.
Porsche Panamera has the same exact level 3 autonomous functions as Tesla. Because they have a self preservation instinct, they don’t market it as a self driving car with autopilot. I love Tesla and I have a Model 3 deposit, but their arrogance here is staggering and it’s going to change the reality of self driving…
Of course, but I still stand by my original statement. If you have to slap that sort of disclaimer on a product, it is likely not ready for public use. Especially on something where failure could result in death.
Elon Musk is the ultimate spinster.
The problem is twofold:
Except that having that in the first paragraph shows precisely where their PR machine is in full force, instead of just mourning the loss of a human being.
still in a public beta phase
The deflection and defensiveness starts in the first paragraph. TOO SOON! Those are good data points, but don't lead with them.
Interesting that Tesla is already trying to define a narrative for the accident. The investigators won’t like that.
“I am not perfect. Nor are you.”
Didn’t need to watch the video (or even read the headline), if he regularly posts videos to YouTube, yet still holds his phone in portrait mode when shooting video, that tells me all I need to know about him.
Life comes at you fast...and reality hits you hard, BRO, YOU CAN’T PANIC IN THAT SITUATION, YOU JUST GOTTA LOOK AROUND AND SAY “WHAT AM I GONNA DO?!?”
These are the upmarket Panamera. In later years Porsche will launch the Panamera (non S), Panamera S, and the Panamera 4 along with of course other higher power variants. This is their standard tactic.
