Installing the clutch fork bearing on a 911, screw up any part of it and the trans has to come back out. The worst if have had is taking the trans out 6 times.

Yes, having worked as a technician at mazda dealer, the new 3 is very nice. I considered trading in my 08 speed3 for a new 3.

I will make the educated guess that the CX3 is based on the 3, and the cx5 is its own platform.

Tl;dr wheres the turbo 2.5? They cant make that engine and only put it in the CX-9

the condition of the lamination leads me to believe its reused a lot and not meant to leave the assembly line, you may be onto something.

The Mazda 3, pre 2014, was mostly engineered by Volvo and Ford whereas the CX5 is all Mazda. Thats my educated guess
