I enjoyed Henry Sugar, but after this and Asteroid City I think he should challenge himself by seeing if he can do a straightforward, gimmick-free narrative film again.

Worth noting that all five main actors had multiple roles (Finnes as a policeman, Kingsley as the dealer, Patel as the accountant, and Ayoade as the original mediation teacher) - probably a function of the stage play-esque adaptation.

“The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” is my favorite Roald Dahl story, and Anderson’s approach here is a good match for the material, which is about (among other things) stories and storytelling, the nesting-doll nature of the tales being told sliding smoothly into Anderson’s wheelhouse. I was disappointed by the short

They also have that roadside apple stand out on Rural Route 20.

It might be a good idea to watch one of the later season episodes. I tried getting into RaM with the first season episodes and bounced off it - but then I watched some Season 4 episodes and got hooked (I still haven’t seen most of the first two seasons of episodes).

Nobody’s asking the real question here, which is:  What if a genie DID have a butt instead of a dick?

I know Harmon has made mistakes, but I’m always happy that he has a complete self awareness of his own faults and seems to make genuine efforts to improve himself.

Its so bizarre. Pierce was his best performance in decades, and he hasn’t done jack shit since. He was also central to the group dynamic and his parts were hilarious. It’s so weird he didn’t understand that then, or even now.

Use of the word “woke”.

SAG should see if they can bargain for some compensation when a show gets un-renewed. That’s so annoying.

It seems like the point of the story she’s telling is more about the unfairness of the contract than just about Murphy being fickle. Her contract kept her from taking other jobs while she waited for him to stop dicking around and no one at the company would give her clarity while her other options dried up.

the spiritual sequel, everybody wants some!!, is also terrific (and if you catch me on the right day i maybe even like it a little more).

The book industry is also pretty white, if not necessarily male.

Gemstones came back fine from the pandemic gap!

Gemstones at least has already been given a renewal. Doesn’t mean they won’t go back on their word and axe it, but for now, its a go.

I’m most concerned about For All Mankind. We’re now at the end of the jumbo multi-season renewal it got at the launch of Apple+, and going into its fourth season there’s still a dismaying lack of conversation about it.

I was hoping we’d actually get to the 90s before the show was over and grapple with his HIV diagnosis and what going public meant (and what his relationship with Buss in the aftermath).

Sure, Jann.

Rodney Dangerfield gets LOTS of respect.
