Does this still use the screen flashing technique to change the on-screen (on-paper?) image? That is the one thing steering me clear of eBook readers in their current state.

I am forced to use IE at work because one of our webapps was written when IE was king and a lot of the idiotic javascript does not work in modern browsers.

@tastypotatoes: I got my star on this article but in a hefty comment thread of my own further down :)

@Tim the Enchanter: The 2.2 announcement actually preceeded when 2.2 was finalized. When 2.2 was pushed to AOSP, that is when your hardware manufacturer started porting it to your device (if not sooner). They then have to submit it to each carrier that the phone is one for approval. Some testing follows by both

@singlecoilpickup: I agree with you that we shouldn't have to develop this way. We do, though.

@blyan-reloaded: Absolutely I would. Where they'd run into issues is that very few people would buy it, tons of money would be lost on R&D, production costs, marketing, and distribution, and the shareholders and executives would be in a total uproar. It would ultimately be a huge flop and they never would make that

@Tim the Enchanter: It is not your given right to upgrade to 2.2, it's the OEMs choice as to whether or not to provide that upgrade. If you are unsatisfied with a device from a company who hasn't provided timely updates then don't buy from them anymore.

@blyan-reloaded: I was referring to the more broad media usage rather than this specific one.

@tastypotatoes: If you prefer that experience then you will need to either go elsewhere, purchase a phone that still includes the Android Market, or purchase a phone that will allow a custom ROM to be loaded with the Android Market.

Fragmentation is an Android buzzword used mostly by people who have no idea what they're talking about. The platform was built from the ground up to support any combination of device hardware, screen size, resolution, and density, and platform versions. If the time and care is taken to think about this when developing

@shkm: That was my second reaction (after "Woah, that looks saweeet"). I was concerned about its integration with my media setup. Now I have realized that it doesn't matter. In both my living room and bedroom my popcorn hours sit at the top of all my hardware or alone somewhere flat.

I'm in for two. No better way to play centralized media in two places at once than these devices. About time my two Popcorn Hour A-100's were retired to greener pastures.

@Jonny_eh: And that stupid remote.

@dcdean1: The non-DRM is for local media. They don't want you to think you can play all your iTunes videos on it.

@octasquid: If the Apple TV did 1080p I'm sure boatloads of more people would agree with you. For people like me with oodles of 1080p content and 1080p TVs a 720p Apple machine is about as useful as a VCR.

@gibbative: Down to $199 now. Had to cancel my two $230 preorders for two $200 ones.

@atrus123: There are plenty of ways to specify alternative resources based on the type of device.

@crashedpc /sarcasm: An episode of Breaking Bad once brought into light how every person makes the distinction on what they truly believe is legal and is not legal. If you haven't seen the show, the conversation took place between a High School science teacher who was secretly cooking meth and his brother-in-law DEA

@parkerjh: Works fine on my /data directory here.

@Famf: You are correct, sir!
