I don’t deny he’s better. I don’t think it’s such a slam dunk though. My whole point is this; I think most writers view them very similarly. Good pitchers, great big game pitchers. I think it’s a fair comparison to make in that regard.

Good point! Monroe never seemed horrible at defense in Detroit; but he got lucky that we never focused on his flaws because we were all too busy hating Josh Smith.

My first thought as a Pistons fan when they sign Monroe was, “well this team just got a lot less exciting.” It seems him clogging up the middle would take away from what seemed to be a strength of the team, driving to the basket.

Yeah, and guess what? That seems to reeeeallly matter to Hall of Fame voters. I’m not arguing he’s a better pitcher. I’m arguing that to the naked eye they are viewed similarly. And that’s keeping him out of the Hall, not his dumb politics.

But he’s not head and shoulders ahead of him, like other are getting at.

I don’t disagree that Morris is overrated, but compare his stats to Schillings. They are more similar than you think.

I dunno. I don’t think either are hall of famers, but Morris has more wins, only one less strikeout crown, an era 1/2 higher, with just as many World Series MVPs and more championships.

Fair enough. I was just thinking along the lines that they both ensure similar criticism; okay pitchers who were great in big games.

Hold on... If Jack Morris isn’t Hall of Fame material, how could you consider Schilling?

Oh, most of us think that mandatory minimum sentencing is ridiculous and that there needs to be a change. Yet most of us believe you change things like that by voting instead of acting like children.

What are some other theories? Do tell!

It’s almost like you have no idea what you’re talking about. He doesn’t compete with the Dukes, Kentuckys, UNC for recruitment classes. Yet he wins.

Good for these guys for taking a stand. Athletes have a unique platform to reach people, and it’s nice to seem them use it to address a serious issue facing our country.

For keeping warm in Michigan “spring.”

The Great Lakes Loons, the Dodger’s single A affiliate not far from my hometown, had fire pits out near the lawn seats in the outfield.

He was the most exciting player in the game when he was healthy. I honestly think if he walked away instead of struggling through a few more seasons (a goddamn hip replacement!) we’d be seeing that argument more.

Hell, you could even make a case for Albert Pujols or Miguel Cabrera. At least over Rose.

Welcome to Florence Ya’ll!

Ever talk to University of Michigan sports fan? Michigan is the most prestigious university in all the land and all the other school’s athletes aren’t smart enough to go there and yadda yadda yadda.

He’s a 7 foot tall Freddie Mercury impersonator.
