I very much like that idea, and I think your idea that no one ends up with the throne by the end is as good a guess as any.

My guess for a while now has been Jaime, because he's the one who doesn't want it. The Kingslayer becomes the king (very likely, as most people believe, after killing his Mad Queen sister).
Maybe the Lord or Light is just powerful, but not right. Maybe he keeps bringing Beric back, basically, because he can. Maybe he uses Thoros and Melisandre as conduits because the power works through them, but not through others. Melisandre was wrong, or, if you believe her, the Lord of Light was wrong. Basically, I…
I noticed that last night, as well. Great voices, the three of them.
Ser Davos had me from the beginning. I love that he's been right there in the middle of the power struggle, having his say, speaking his mind, but hasn't been killed (yet). He's not what one would consider a major character, but definitely one of my favorites.
Oh yeah… I forgot about that.
A full line of clothing and objects are available as well (most contain the words Add Violence or Anxiety). I'm rather fond of the new Add Violence merch where they've taken the last bit of the N on the NIN logo and made it look like a V. Also, a journal with 'Not The Actual Events' on the cover seems kind of genius.…
I don't believe one needs to feel shame for liking latter-day NIN, because a lot of latter-day NIN is really quite good.
What if it creates two consciences, but both are aware of the other? So many fun sci-fi ways to dwell on this quandary.
As I said up above, sadly, not in our lifetimes.
It's a step, a very tiny step, towards something that COULD be very cool (it's not yet). Similar things have been done before. The science surrounding this is not advancing very quickly and will likely have very little to no effect on most of our live before we shove off this mortal coil (or destroy ourselves en masse…
If you are so easily swayed into forming such a hard line, nasty opinion of someone based on a nearly fact free fluff piece like this, I don't really need to reply to you anymore.
And? What does this change? CHRISTOPHER Tolkien has a lifetime of caring for one of the most beloved works of fiction ever put to print. I don't have to agree with him to respect that A) he's doing what he thinks is right, B) he's done a damn fine job of it for decades. Also, that article is wholly and completely…
The whole thing reads to me as "settled out of court", even though they had to go to court for years to reach that point.
J.R.R. Tolkien agreed with you. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were always intended to be two very different things, two very different experiences. Trying to make The Hobbit into a second LOTR trilogy can't be viewed as anything other than studio greed. I wish PJ, Fran and Phillipa would have stood their ground…
I don't disagree much about anything in particular. Certainly not enough to write the lengthy reply that I could write if I wanted to break it all down bit by bit. What I will say is that, for me, if PJ had stuck with Sam and Frodo more straight through I think it would play even better. As is, I love pretty much…
In our opinions, sure. But sometimes being a complete and total asshole is necessary when dealing with something as huge as The Lord of the Rings. His decisions will never make all of the fans happy. But if they make his family happy then he's doing the right thing.
They're still great, particularly the extended editions. The only part that drags for me is Sam and Frodo getting the damn ring up the mountain.
Christopher Tolkien has a lifetime of doing his best to protect and care for one of the most treasured literary works in the history of the medium. The list of authors who left no one behind to oversee this task is endless.
And if the nine films were as good as the LOTR trilogy I'd be ecstatic! On the other hand, if it was 27 hours of The Hobbit level quality, I'd be in therapy for years.
