They are presented as a military with a chain of command and ranks in the films and in the EU. I fail to see how they are less of a military than the First Order which is just the “remnants” of the Empire, which is also made up of multiple factions (according to the Aftermath trilogy and Bloodline). Your definition of

This is way different than Empire. Luke literally calls lightsabers and “laser sword” and makes fun of the idea of a ragtag group of rebels winning against a superior force simply with heart. Yoda shows up and basically admits that the Jedi are kinda garbage. Rey finds out her parents are nobody and she’s not the

Yep. If the original trilogy came out today the Real Fans™ would hate it.

Except this was explained in the film. He does exactly what Yoda and Obi Wan did after their students turned to the Dark Side. It’s only “uncharacteristic” if you think Luke remained this flat, static person who never changed at the end of ROTJ. This is not how humans human and it’s certainly would not be a compelling

LOL Salty fanboi comment is salty and fanboish. Also, this is pipping hot bullshit. He never said this and you know it.

Character arcs are a thing. Luke was still basically a teenager at the end of ROTJ. People get older, witness more trauma, deal with more shit, etc. It’s only “out of character” if you think Luke is this flat, static figure who doesn’t change in any way. Basically the opposite of a good character.

    It is also ignoring

Most ships have hyperspace jammers to prevent this. My assumption is Hux turned theirs off to track the Resistance. Gravity wells pull objects out of hyperspace, hence you couldn’t destroy a planet via hyperspace kamikaze. Large ships have gravity generators that can interdict hyperspace objects from crashing into

Hyperspace jammers though. Hux obviously turned the Supremacy’s off to track the Resistance. In most cases hyperspace kamikaze wouldn’t work.

I actually thought that Leia and Holdo had lezed out at some point.

I lived on a military base for 18 years and Holdo’s actions did not confuse me in the slightest. Didn’t give it a second thought. An Admiral is absolutely not going to share all their plans with someone of substantially lower rank. This is why obedience and chain of command are so important in militaries. You might

“We need to elect socialist populists to appeal to the white working class!”

No. You need to listen to black people.

Are you on r/starwarsleaks? That place has turned into a fanboy bitch-fest. Every other post is about how Disney ruined their lives and how dare they not make something that is a 1-1 match of their perfect fanfic they had worked out in their head.

The clincher: They haven’t even seen it yet.

This. I still have a hard time understanding what Philip thought was going to happen.

There is literally no one above her but God for God’s sake! You’re not going to be ‘man of the house’ and all that.

And why are we discounting Trump’s desire to repeal NAFTA?

Trump’s program is explicitly nationalist economics and anti-free trade. His rebuking of TPP is the biggest example of this and that’s no small thing.

It’s both ironic and serious. Get with the program buddy!

From what I’ve read, it makes enough deviations and bold choices to satisfy the ‘The Force Awakens-was-too-derivative’ crowd.
