I am envisioning Fury Road......but with Vulcans.
“probably because the answer to that question is almost certainly “fascism” in some context”
Indeed. I like to think that the “Alliance” in Firefly is actually a view of the “Federation” from the position of its discontents. Not “evil” per se, but a massive, faceless, bureaucracy the main concerns of which are… Read more
Also, people tend to forget that the Vulcans are only the way they are because of a series of genocidal civil wars that brought them very close to extinction and basically obliterated the ecology of their planet. It took them about 1,500 years to rebuild. The Vulcan we see in Star Trek is at the tail-end of a… Read more
YES. Also, Dems did very well in governors races, which is really good news for voting rights; or at least reason for hope.
A lot of people seemed to believe that the dems taking the Senate was somehow a possibility and are now devastated. Pretty wild as that was always a big long-shot.
If they manage to take back the House I will count it as a win and be happy about it. I am not wallowing in misery over something that was never a real… Read more
“going to be by a much less dramatic margin than expected”
Expected by who? So far things are breaking mostly along the exact expected lines (at last at 11:11pm EST they are).
No one ever said this wasn’t going to be a long uphill, battle. The idea they would ever be able to turn the Senate was mostly a pipe-dream, although the push in Senate races was necessary to build that infrastructure for later. If they manage to wrestle control of the House back I will count that as a miracle.
“I’ve heard from two screenwriting profs now that can’t fathom how people enjoy it”
Holy shit. This dude has heard from two people who are totally screen-writing professors!!! Pack it in guys!
What did the FO build that the Empire “couldn’t”? Source?
Your face fucking sucks.
My actual first response to looking at this picture was literally that he was probably on a lot of coke.
I think it’s funny that people complain that the First Order just coming out of nowhere and rolling over the fledgling New Republic was somehow “unrealistic” when shit like ISIS taking over a larger land area than the UK is something that just happened IRL. And it happened because the few people who were trying to… Read more
The Death Star was brand new tech in comparison to a conventional fleet. And the FO didn’t need to have a massive fleet since the New Republic’s fleet was significantly nerfed due to the demilitarization effort initiated by Mon Mothma.
Exactly. All of those elements are virtually nonexistent (because they don’t fucking matter), but I am sure the Sequel Trilogy detractors will insist that that is “different” somehow. They just love bitching. They don’t even know what they want anymore.
You’re literally being given this thing you supposedly “need” by LucasFilm and yet you are STILL BITCHING. It’s almost like there is nothing they can do to satisfy you people.
There is nothing here you NEED to know to understand what is going on in TFA or TLJ that isn’t stated in the title scrawl. Nothing. Nobody… Read more
“Of course this only works if we interpret the Dark Lord as having a gender.”
I mean, pretty much every character in the show regards Satan as male. Prudence actually even highlights this irony when they are in the mine with those boys.
