As an American living in the UK, this is a major reason I am staying here. I am entitled to a year's maternity leave, full pay for 26 weeks, and then reduced pay for up to a year.

Honestly the first six weeks shouldn't even be for the benefit of the child (but, sure, that's good too). Childbirth is HARD. Recovery is hard. And if you have complications?
