Well. I'm married, in a fairly traditional, gender normative relationship with 4 kids. Bottom line, I don't NEED my husband. He doesn't NEED his wife. We WANT to be together.

I just popped in to watch a singy video about princesses with bum luck before I turned in for the night, and I stumbled into this amazing thread. Non-night owls have no idea what they're missing.

"Traditional values weren't perfect but they were certainly better at creating stability for women and children more than what we have now."

Unsustainable for men long-term. Not unsustainable for women in a matriarchal society. MATRIARCHY IS COMING.

Kids definitely still use "gay" as an insult, but I see other kids calling them out on it, which would not have happened when I was riding my pet dinosaur to school in the 80's.

Gnu reminds me of Men in Tights, and that's always a good thing.

I have no idea who half of these people are, such as Rachelle Lefevre and Adam Pally. Am I an old or are these just US magazine pseudo-celebrities?

I've watched enough 90s teen shows- Clarissa Explains It All, Dawson's Creek, and Saved by the Bell- to find climbing into a friends window perfectly acceptable (and awesomely cool) behavior.

Fucking Jeremy.

Not only will economic benefits vary from company to company, but most likely from department to department within one company and even probably from person to person within a department. The sum of the pluses and minuses are going to depend upon the aggregation level, so it might make sense for a department but not

Oh I don't know, why don't you ask almost every other country in the entire world (except Swaziland and Papua New Guinea) and see how they're managing.
Spoiler: A fuck ton better than the States.

As an American living in the UK, this is a major reason I am staying here. I am entitled to a year's maternity leave, full pay for 26 weeks, and then reduced pay for up to a year.

Honestly the first six weeks shouldn't even be for the benefit of the child (but, sure, that's good too). Childbirth is HARD. Recovery is hard. And if you have complications? This is something that is pretty damn traumatic to the body - six weeks is a pretty standard recovery time from surgery or other traumatic

As a Canadian, where we get 50 week mat-leaves, its not a thing, at all.

If this were to pass then rich dudes who own companies would make less money. Therefore, it will not pass.

LOL - really? Are they doing a triathlon for the next 18 years? Cuz that I could get behind!

The US doesn't even actually have an immigration problem though.

Republicans are only worried about those babies while they are on the inside. Once they are outside, they better start using those bootstraps. Tiny, cute bootstraps.
