My dad’s family are all 2nd gen Catholics from Germany and Ireland who were certainly discriminated against because of their heritage in Eastern Kentucky and Chicago where they originally settled. For quite some time, “whiteness” was only afforded to WASPs.

I agree with you, but I would say a distinction should be made between legal and undocomented immigrants. I’m all for a path to legalization, citizenship, etc. especially in places like the rural southwest where they are needed to fill jobs in, say, agriculture. But borders and immigration control are necessary.
