In fact, I have. I've been developing my own rolls and prints for a good, 5 years now. I've spent hours in the dark room. My hands smelled like stop and fixer for months on end. I only use my dSLR for times when I need to be able to take hundreds of pictures, such as sporting events or animals.

Going by that definition of art, photography isn't art, you're just taking a picture. Neither is carving, or sculpting, either.
