I'm assuming you do some character or environment work. Hey me too, though I'm an animator. That being said, why hate on the guy for expressing his opinion? And why try to drown him in semi-technical terms to sound more intelligent?

I think he may be using some words he recently discovered, you're right, but at the same time I think he's just referring to how you seem to be taking his dumb/hyperbolic joke much more seriously than he intended it to be.
Aw that's just mean spirited. The Ouya crew gave away free beer!
I think Monstrr was being a bit dramatic, but he's more or less right. As an animator in games, I have to generally agree with his point.
You're being sarcastic.. right? I hope you are, but I can never know with commenters on articles like this. If that was an honest comment, you're either 12 years old or have an extremely twisted and naive view of a workplace. I'll just hope you were making a joke.
I agree, I also agree with Luke's core message. But I'm really replying here to say damn that last sentence is a rad analogy.. Props.
Are you in game development? Do you currently or have you previously had a job making games? Because it sounds like you're taking a wild guess. If you do work in games, where are you working that you're seeing everyone slacking and pulling in crazy money?
Alright, well judging from all of that, I have a feeling this will end up being a fruitless discussion. You have some pretty solid foundational views at odds with mine. And no offense meant because you've been very civil and somewhat logical, but those views seem extremely outdated. I feel like they go right along…
I feel like you're trying to get too high-level here. Like what are morals and why do they matter? Morality shifts over time as society changes, majority rules etc. etc. That's all well and good to chat about and observe, but that's not the least bit pragmatic. It gets us nowhere. Personally I think the question, "is…
Is that really your argument for why there should be sexy ladies showing off games at a professional expo? That they'd be out of a job otherwise? Sorry man, but I think that's ridiculous. I've got no problem with the ladies - I enjoy what they do. I hope they have a long and fulfilling career doing exactly that if…
Jesus dude, I'm sorry, but your argument is almost comical. I'm not going to readdress the comparison between alcohol related deaths and go-go dancing at a business party. Have a good one man.
You're continually missing this concept of context. The context is the entire issue here. It isn't sexualization of women, it isn't objectification, it's none of those things. It's context.
Also I never suggested men aren't ever portrayed that way.
If they've got some rad dance routine, some girls and guys doing a great dance show, absolutely. Nothing wrong with that. If they brought in some Cirque du Soleil stuff (I haven't seen the show, can't speak to that in particular, you get the idea), then totally. The issue is with the message it's sending.
Drawing some false conclusions and comparisons are we? I'm 100% okay with alcohol, I'm not okay with anyone being a dumbass and driving drunk. It's San Francisco. Hit a single button on your phone, a cab shows up 2 minutes later and pay $5-10 to get to your hotel. Big deal. When did this discussion become about the…
It isn't a party at some dude's house either. Trust me, I'm 100% about the alcohol, the DJs, all that good stuff. I love GDC, been a few times, been to the parties. It's awesome. I think this stuff is blowing up a bit more than it needs to, but I still think that they have no place at a party like THIS one. And that…
Is that really your argument? I don't see you actually being open to any rational discussion here so I'll keep it short. Were talking about an issue of context. There's no problem with strippers male or female. They can be awesome entertainment and can help people have a great time. But they have no place at a…
I'm sorry dude, don't mean to sound like a dick here but everything you just said is complete bullshit. No one would complain? People would be fired. There would be articles more numerous than this. Were not talking about advertising here, were not even talking about entertainment. Were talking about a business hosted…
You just explained the problem yourself. There are talks at GDC about solving issues just like this. The convention is there to solve issues and mature the business. An attending organization hosting a GDC party with that is only holding it back and negating the discussions happening at the convention.
As for women…
Everybody seems to be missing that the issue is context here. Cheerleaders, chicks on tv and in movies - you're comparing entertainment to a business hosted party during a convention to improve the industry.
That's a pretty big blanket statement to make about parties. There's more than one kind of party. Bachelor's party? Bring it on. Hell yeah. Business party happening during a convention that is hosting discussions to prevent this exact thing? That's a problem.
