You're comparing entertainment on tv with an industry business party. This is taking place during a convention striving to improve the industry and get more women into development. This happened at a party hosted by one of the largest professional organizations of developers - which is also pushing for those changes.

I think you missed the issue entirely if you think the solution is to respect the women's choice of profession. It has nothing to do with them or what they're doing and everything to do with a professional organization - that strives to not only create better work environments for developers, but also pushes to get

Because its a party being held during a convention in which professionals gather to share ideas, improve conditions and practices of the game industry while working to mature the business. The company hosting the party is one of the largest professional organizations of game developers, formed to discuss and solve the

It's pointless for us to continue arguing about this really, especially because were blowing this out of proportion. I'm just going to say that I highly doubt the announcement trailer for their next big game would feature the most important, most widely used animation in the game as temp. Let's be honest here. The

No, the hookers are sexualized. He remains a means to create a power fantasy for the players. You feel like a badass that's banging some hookers. It's all about how things are portrayed, not about the objective actions themselves. Those scenes aren't done in a way to turn the lady players on. They're done to make the

Are you trolling for a reaction? And are we name dropping our studios here? Because to be honest, it looks like a childish attempt at garnering some credibility. I try not to brandish my resume around to prove a point. In any case, I don't know how you do it over there, but I don't know of any studios that put out

Well, I had a really quick chat with one of our designers at work and he said that it sort of depends on what type of design you want to do. In general though, his answer was just "make stuff." He said join a mod team, get UDK and make levels, get Unity and make your own games. He said its critical to learn

I know how animation works, I do it for a living ;)

Because they still have the rest of it to do. They're showing what they have polished. Chances are they polished these areas up specifically to make a trailer and there's a lot of the game left to make.

Completely agree, they can and should address it. I think were on the same page here :)

I can tell you're into having some actual conversation about games. Surely your comment and this one aren't a waste of our time.

Of course, I wasn't at all suggesting that they wouldn't have time. They definitely can and should address it. I was just saying that they were probably happy with it, but will most likely change it given the response. You're right though, they have time and I hope they rework it.

I graduated about 2 years ago and have been lucky as hell to have gotten to work on some big projects at some great studios already. I'm an animator though, not designer. What exactly do you want to do? Like what discipline precisely?

It's a perfectly reasonable complaint. If it's eye catching enough to break immersion and hinder someone's experience, then it's a completely valid issue to bring up.

Agreed. Gorgeous game, the run was immediately eye catching and terrible. There's no force or weight. She barely has any contact with the ground. Quickly contacts and then an almost even feeling up and down float.

Trailers tend to show the more polished parts of the game. Not the really work in progress stuff - unless its specifically stated as such. My guess is that they were pretty happy with the run, but given all of the comments about it, they'll most likely revisit it.

I mentioned this in a comment towards Unionbuster. Like I was saying in my original comment, there's a difference between the way a character looks and the way a character is portrayed. That's the difference between "sexy" and "sexualized." You're saying that buff guys are sexualized because they're "sexy" (meaning in

I concur, as a heterosexual man, no argument there. That's unrelated to the discussion though. The discussion is about whether its okay to both sexualize and brutalize women at the same time in games. Doing either of those is a different topic, but this particular conversation is about doing both. Because that

Something is sexualized by the way it is portrayed. He didn't say shirtless/ripped dudes aren't sexy, he said sexualized. Big difference. Kratos is not portrayed in a way intended to make players aroused or consider him sexy. He's supposed to be a badass and thus make the player feel like a badass. The women, who have

This seems more like a case where by dissecting the problem in one game, we can get a better understanding of how it works in other games too. Your comment is absolutely right and exactly why Totilo wrote a thorough article about it - it isn't the first game to involve both sexualizing and killing women. It's in
