Uh, doesn't work that way, doldrums. There's no such thing as a non-hostile, non-hurtful racism. If you mean you don't spit on people of color as they walk by, well, good for you (sarcasm). If you continue to support and perpetuate racism, even if it's just in your acquiescence to a racist culture, then you're being…
After one too many arguments with some of my relatives when I was a teen, I had that epiphany. No matter what I said, no matter how I argued, they were never ever going to be Not Racist, and the only way their racism was going to stop was their death. "They were marinated in it" is such a great way to put it.
"To cultural conservatives, this doesn't look like their country at all."
At least interracial families are gonna get all the racists really thin. It is a new form of Bulimia, Interracial Phobia Bulimia.
The thing is, when you start talking about the issues, many of these same women will start quoting Rush at you. How could any woman listen to that misogynistic shit? It is mind blowing. Either that, or they start talking about welfare.
Actually, the reason they lost is because they DID effectively communicate their positions. Quite effectively.
They DID effectively communicate with women and minorities. That's why we won't vote for them.
Yes, clearly the problem is that we just don't understand how much smarter these white dudes are than us and why letting them govern our bodies is for our own good! I seriously wouldn't be surprised if they tried puppets and shoe analogies at this point.
I remember that guy! The delusion was strong in him. He seriously seemed to believe that if they could just all do a better job of explaining that women and people of color deserve to be second-class citizens, we'd all "get it" and start actively voting against our own interests.
Yep, and choosing Palin as the VP nominee in 2008 totally won over all the females just like it was intended. Obviously... it's the only reason McCain is president.
I love this article so much. I'd like to add, though, that the Republican stance on reproductive rights isn't the only thing that turns women off from their party — Republicans also don't have a good record of supporting women economically or protecting them from violence. They've been pretty clear about their…
I heard a Republican political analyst on NPR after the last presidential election saying that the reason the GOP failed to win was that they hadn't "effectively communicated" with women and minorities. He said that the GOP needs more women and minority politicians to "explain the Republican platform to them." God,…
Pop-girl stan culture is really not that different from sports team allegiances or various "geek" fandoms that are enamored with Star Wars, comic books, Dr. Who, etc. It's not that we don't have lives, it's that we feel like these stars are apart of our lives and thus, we feel like we have a vested interest in them. …
Yes, it's a snobbery thing, but it's more of a meritocratic snobbery, rather than a classist one. Like Wendy said, we know how Beyonce came to prominence, and ditto for Kim. In terms of celebrity, I don't think it's wrong to have more respect for a bonafide entertainer than for someone like Kim. That's the way it…
Well, it's complicated, but in a nutshell, her fans don't want her to attend the wedding because Kim is tacky, and they don't like the idea of their fave being "forced" to associate with Kim for the sake of being polite. Think of it as being similar to Anna Wintour having to make nice with Kim, if she wants Kanye to…
Wendy's like that broken clock that's right at least twice a day.
So. Women of color and queer women have been pointing out the problems with "feminism" since forever, and it's a white dude's decision to go with "genderist" that makes you decide to write an article on how it's ok to not identify that way? Women who eschew the label are routinely held up as punching bags for you…
