The Final Days of Gawker Have Come

You are telling me that Microsoft buying Activision lead to layoffs?  Color me shocked!  I will be equally shocked when this all turns to shit for consumers as well

I fail to see how this means you shouldn’t protest the guy actively helping Israel to bomb Gaza. They are hardly going to be able to protest him in the White House. They have to protest when he is out and about. And the fact is he will always be out an about talking about another important problem. His job is to

honestly, unizionation. it might not sound like anything. hell, it might not always result in job protection, but a unified workforce is a scary workforce. that’s why corporations are always union busting; they don’t want workers to engage in collective action. the moment workers realize they actually hold the means

Well we have a CEO class that is roughly, the class right below the .01% ers. Some are the same. They see us poors as numbers. They truly believe the job creator nonsense. Despite scores of studies that industry consolidation has been a direct contributor to wage stagnation for everyone else other than the top 1% since

After a merge. A lot of people is made redundant.

Why do all of these companies post record profits and then lay off the workers instead of cutting execs’ salaries? You still havent answered that.

Every decade or so, idiot 12-20 year old gamers have to learn the hard way that big company consolidations are BAD. Because they always fall for the hype and defend the corp buying up everything with claims of “yeah, they’ll treat the IP right.” and similar garbage.

Why is it an industry-wide trend?  Why do all of these companies post record profits and then lay off the workers?  Why did they overhire during the pandemic?

Hmm, wonder where all the people strongly defending the acquisition by saying that the workers will be MUCH better taken care of are?

We’ve been gaslit by pro-acquisition people over the last two years that “capitalism wont do the thing that it always will.” We have been spun a tale about how this merger will result in improved job security and that regulators like the FTC should be defunded for daring to oppose it. Dissenters got dogpiled.

Capital gains taxes that punish the fiduciary responsibility of quarterly dividends.
Companies lay off to make their earnings seem better in the short term = share $ go up or dividends go up. Disincentivize the behavior.

By jove! WhOeVeR sAw ThIs CoMiNg?!

Microsoft doesn’t count contract workers when it comes to layoffs. These people are just quietly let go.

These are all blue badges.

Yeah I work for a fortune 500 company. Contract workers cost a ton of money, but they are used to make cuts like this - which instantly boosts reporting cash to shareholders. It is a horrible model and is 100% smoke and mirrors. Over-pay good workers, dont give them benefits, cut them when you need cash on some

We’re already up to like half the number of layoffs for all of 2023. What an absolutely brutal industry.

Feel bad for the people it impacts, but keep in mind that most of these 2200 were contract workers.

This comes in the same quarter that MS reported that they’re up 27% over last year, earned $22 million in profit over expenditures, and became a $3 trillion dollar company, the most profitable in the world. They also reported that the Xbox division was up and doing financially well, with subscriptions up 13% and

This sounds even worse when you consider that, for US employees, no state requires severence payment to begin with.

Spencer noted that this was a “painful decision” for Microsoft as a whole, clarifying that the company will “provide our full support to those who are impacted during the transition, including severance benefits informed by local employment laws.”

I hope they don’t fail, but just because they didn’t even deserve any other chance to have the opportunity for it.
By now hopefully everyone has understood that these people were scammers. And if they weren’t so highlighted by everyone they would have gotten away with way more money.

And DrDisrespect...even if he said
