Oh yeah- from a business perspective they haven’t needed to... which probably says more about the mindset of consumers now vs. 20 years ago.

I miss when consoles had stair step discounts through its life. That said, if Nintendo pulls it off and the Switch becomes the highest selling console of all time, it’ll be with a console that kept the same price for its entire life (or, for most if it- if they do a discount next year), which is quite a feat. The…
True- but it’s difficult to compare to Wii. Wii had awful software attachment rates and the Switch excels at that.
Yes, but none of those systems had as much gas in the tank that the Switch still has. Nintendo announces earlier when they know their holiday sales are going to suck. That could be to encourage kiddos to not ask for a competitors system as a gift and to wait for a new Nintendo console
They won’t say much about it until after this holiday season. They don’t want to wreck their holiday sales.
Ah, thanks for the info! That sucks. The type of game Campfire Cabal makes isn’t my cup of tea but sad to hear that they’re gone.
Loved Wipeout. It was the 2nd ps1 game I bought and played it to death. Controls take some getting used to buy once you do it’s phenomenal. I really loved the sound design in it as well. Brits know how to do audio.
I had been a huge Nintendo fan but jumped ship and preordered both the PS1 and PS2 for launch. For the PS1 was such an exciting time because it seemed like every few months there was a game that did stuff that you never saw before (or pushed game mechanics to the forefront that had been very niche before).
Toshinden did it for me too. I was a big fighting game fan. One of the employees at a small game chain location near me imported the PS1 about 6 months before the launch. Prior to walking into that store, I knew of the PlayStation but I was 100% holding out for the N64 as I loved my SNES and NES before that. I walked…
Exactly, it’s not lost. How can it be lost if it was never looked for in the first place?
Sega did a pretty good job of destroying themselves in the US with the Saturn… not to mention PS1.
Except the Wii U gamepad could show different things than the TV… so this is a broken Wii U gamepad.
So... I AM using their numbers from what both Microsoft and Nintendo publicly released. Do you see why I’m curious now?
Except even globally the Xbox outsold the GameCube. The numbers I referenced were global sales.
I’d be very curious to know what metrics they’re using to state this. As gamers we tend to look at home console sale numbers to “declare victory” which would prove this to be false (one example, original Xbox outsold the Gamecube).
Been wondering about this stuff for awhile. For the past couple years, some of my various news feeds have pulled in articles from obscure websites that post articles about how Bree Larson has been or is going to be fired from Marvel. It’s been baffling.
I find it interesting how two of the bigger releases this year (Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime Remastered) are remakes of single player games from the early-to-mid 2000s. They were popular then and now. I’m hoping some game companies learn something from this but maybe the allure of getting the next wildly popular…
Yeah, digital games are tied to your account. Physical games all the way ask that my entire family can play it with their accounts.
People have been predicting that we’re in the last console cycle dating back to PS2- and probably even before that.
