I disagree with all these statements. While those things are certainly hard to do, with enough research and preparation, they are certainly within the scope of a good do-it-yourselfer.
I believe what they meant by leaving the car out to cool is to let the engine cool, along with all of the oil and coolant. A quick Google search tells me oil and coolant can get above 200F (93C), and there’s a lot of both on top of the engine block.
I find an 18000BTU air conditioner keeps my garage perfectly pleasant.
