I just listened to that episode too, and found the whole thing strange. She paid for an impoverished girl’s private education and bought her mom a car to help her get to work. And then she hired the mom to be her personal laundry woman, which is nice I guess, since the mom was having trouble holding a job. But they

Part of the conservative ethos is that private charity is just as good as and can replace public policy and funding, so this makes sense in a way. She picked a family she thought was “worthy” of the help, and gave it. She didn’t consider the other kids who were still in the school and that they all might benefit from

Last night I listened to an NPR show @ Betsy DeVos and her time as a mentor in a low income school. I missed the beginning, but the teachers who were interviewed talked about how profoundly misguided she was. She took a shine to one family and bought them a car, but never tried to figure out what would actually help

It’s this weird-ass sort of eugenics they’re wanting to do. If you can’t “hack it” through their bullshit American hazing ritual — involving being the right skin color, conforming to certain cultural roles they want to enforce, etc — you just don’t make it and out you go. By removing forced protections, they’re

I guess I don’t understand. Why is it a bad thing to protect against sex discrimination? Or to keep pollution out of our air & water? Or to pay people equally for the same job? Or to have regulations in place to keep buildings from falling down or people from being poisoned? I just can’t wrap my mind around whatever

What I’ve heard from the grapevine (and my New York friends) is yes, definitely.

I’ve often found that the people who “don’t want to talk about politics” or “hate divisiveness” or “don’t understand all the hate these days” are people who aren’t at any risk of being affected by any divisive policies or bigotry.

Det är mitt nya favorit språk!

Jag också, tack.

It’s three days in September in Sweden, not July in Arizona. They’ll be fine.

Jag, för en, välkomnar våra nya svenska mästare!

That gif is giving me life! Also, as you know, TRL is coming back. Everything old is new again (or I’m just old).

That ballboy has the reflexes of paste, and also what a way to spend your 15 minutes..

Also, please feel free to issue a gigantic “FUCK YOU” to anyone who even suggests we should have evacuated. You cannot evacuate 6 million people in 2 days (which is all we really got notice of, because no one predicted how bad it would be until then, and still no predicted it would be quite THIS bad). You sure as shit

Just an update because a lot of you were super supportive last year when my daughter was having serious issues with her mental illness: school has started, she’s a freshman this year and she’s doing so damn well! She’s even in pep squad which has taken us all by surprise, but fuck it! She loves it so we figure it’s

Awesome! I’m so happy for them. And all the racist shits can suck it.

Maybe I missed something, but this appears to be a list of ways you can help out your friends, not a list of things new parents should expect from their friends on threat of ostracization.

Catholics have the thing for shame.

I guess the congressman is not aware that what was inflicted upon Jews was done by a nominally Christian (Catholic, but in the same family as those who believe in the divinity of Christ) nation on a non-Christian ethnic group (as well as other discriminated classes). The idea that speaking about a religious war and

Seriously. The Nazis weren’t “terrorists”—they were the actual government. And if you replaced every “Islamic” with “Jewish” in his little Facebook screed, you’d pretty much have *exactly* the official policy and rhetoric that led to Auschwitz in the first place.
