The tax paid was just a percentage of the proceeds paid to the center. A reasonable protest would not have the people who are supposed to be the beneficiaries set up to be collateral damage. The state will still receive money from people stuck there, those people will continue to live and need support.

The point is that it isn’t a “token gesture” the money went to a place where it will help the people most impacted by this law and support its repeal.

Your assumption is incorrect. I’m hourly, the only reason it isn’t tanking the department budget is that they never filled a vacancy so the wages allotted to that role cover my overtime.
