Some of your critiques are valid, some aren’t, but I will ultimately side with you as a Star Wars fan, even though Star Wars also has its issues. For me the big problem with Star Trek is that the ships always felt more like mobile hospitals than warships—pristine, overly geometric and sterile. The people too were just

Religion is exactly the right place to lay the blame, especially our particularly ridiculous brand of puritanical Christianity. Yay for protestant guilt!

I appreciate that American Gods does this, but . . . I disagree with you on this. (I know, big surprise—I disagree with Katherine on something.) While I certainly don’t want every show to throw gratuitous sex scenes in, I think a few shows should be out there that do. Sex is part of the human experience, and I feel

Sweet! One of my favorite movies. Bring it!

I love the whole Michael Jackson lit-up tiles he’s stepping on thing. Gives the concept a menacing aspect.

In my experience Millennials are much better at parsing out real news from fake news than Gen Xers and especially Baby Boomers, who are horrible at it. I can’t recall how many times I’ve corrected my mom on some stupid FB meme she posted that was easily revealed to be false with a simple search. I used to correct my

Ditto.

I’ll agree with you on that point. Millennials need to toughen up and learn to take some shit on the chin, but also get down in the trenches and fight for the really important stuff. Pick your battles, Millennials, and then, when you do, make it count.

Yep, Maher and West are old friends. Maher is also friends with Anne Coulter (:shivers:). It’s cool they can disagree and still get along at the end of the day. And yes, I never understood the ‘Hillary’s as bad as Trump’ bullshit that Sanders supporters flung out there. Uh . . . what? It’s surprising that an elder

Well said.

Gen-Xers were always more conservative on the whole than the Boomers were in their heyday, but I like to think we were more levelheaded too because we were more cynical from the outset. The Boomers swung hard between two extremes: extremely liberal when they were young, extremely conservative now that they’re old.

Shit, Beth, you have it good if your parents are watching Bill Maher. My parents watch Alex Jones. (Well, my dad does, but my mom goes right along with whatever he says.) I would much prefer my parents were into Bill Maher than Alex Jones. Maher is right about most things; he’s just kind of an abrasive asshole

Hooray! Congrats to Charlie Jane! Well deserved.

I agree, and anyone who hasn’t served in some lower-level capacity should be roundly rejected by voters. Reagan at least served as a state governor before he got the presidency. But this is where we are now. We can never again underestimate the people to elect someone who is wholly unqualified to be president. That

This is where we are now as a country. Unfortunately, while I have hope that Gen Xers (my generation) and Millennials will inject some sanity back into politics, I honestly don’t know if that is going to happen. What I do know—and it pains me to say this because it’s my parents’ generation—is that Baby Boomers need to

Oh my God, give all of these people cameos on an actual GoT series, current or forthcoming, as a reward. This was quite good! I especially loved the girl playing Catelyn (beautiful girl, and talented) and the kid playing Petyr (he even kinda looks like a young Aiden Gillen!) Good job, all.

SMU: Uninspidered.

Uh, are you sure that wasn’t supposed to be Malicious Antagonists Requiring Top Hats Association? Seems like a group tailor-made (ahem) for the Mad Hatter. Penguin can be an honorary/surprise member. Man, a group with the acronym MARTHA would be such a cruel joke on Batman too.

What? You don’t remember the Land of Make-Believe, where the toy trolley went into the wall and came out in the land where all the puppets were? It was always pretty much my favorite part of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood
