Oddly, both parts feel like they were written for Nicolas Cage.

That doesn't surprise me at all, since they had first hired that dog to work as writer on the show. After a trial period during which it was discovered that his jokes were a little too highbrow for the writers' room, he then eased into working in front of the camera.
