God, no. Can you imagine being a daughter raised by someone who doesn’t “believe” rape culture exists? That if something (forbid) did happen to you, your dad would ask you what you were wearing and if you were drinking?
Shit. I’m so sorry that happened to you. And I can completely understand why you would lie about your attacker’s identity rather than accuse a church leader’s son. Also, if I may be so bold... it’s pretty messed up that your parents threatened to submit you to a virginity test. :/
Well obviously when a man says his daughter has been raped, it’s believable. SMH.
This kind of shit would make me cry if I wasn’t so fucking angry about it.
Totes. They would be activists for reform right now having looked deep inside themselves and at the world around them.
There’s a reason they latch on to the Rolling Stone story like a dog with a bone and just sort of glaze over and wander off if you talk about rape and sa reports that haven’t been discredited.
I'm replying to your comment because for some reason, the "Reply" to the story function won't work for me, so apologies in advance!
Jia...
Oh, yes. Yes, of course.
A coworker and I were talking a couple weeks ago about a couple he knows and a difficult period of time they went thru when their daughter was raped at IU. So is my coworker lying? He’s a man so he gets the benefit of the doubt.
And it’s not just on college campuses... It can be anywhere.
Maybe if we’re lucky, this will be the week we end the myth of police brutality too.
The accompanying photo is so fucking perfect. A+ for snark.
I was waiting for this shit to happen. I’m so glad this is being used as a way of painting all rape survivors with the ‘totally 100% lying because of reasons’ brush.
Hear, hear! However, let’s take this one step further. I would go so far to say that WOMEN are a myth. I mean, I’m not a woman. Therefore, are there women? I find this so called “women exist” narrative just doesn’t hold water.
Dear Men Assholes of America,
My daughter was gang-raped at her school last year and I’ll take every opportunity to tell parents:
I’m sure if the Rolling Story hadn’t been discredited all these tools would completely believe in rape culture, right?
Killin’ it, Jia. Thank you for this.
I always remember Angelina from Jersey Shore (the one who left after the first episode with her garbage bag luggage in tow) using the word “classy” when I hear it used.
That “Classy Woman” tee is the worst fucking thing I’ve ever seen.
