Personally, I prefer that the engineers who build my cars give at least a passing thought to ease of servicing them, not just making them as cheap as possible to assemble.

Replace HV battery.  Don’t forget the HV battery is the entire floor of the truck.  So remove seats, entire body, suspension and drive, replace battery, reassemble.  That truck will never, ever be right again. (if it ever was)

You’re not wrong on the politics. But I think the era of cheap labor is ending if it isn’t already over, and I’m not sure the Chinese government has a plan for that beyond “subcontracting to the Vietnamese.”

The goal of this legislation was to bring battery production to the US, not necessarily to make cars cheaper. If making cars cheaper was the sole goal we would have reduced the barriers to entry, not made them harder. This was more about protecting jobs and fighting a geo-political struggle with China than making…

This is what hurts the most- Wishing you can teleport is more likely than the possibility of the US getting the same kind of rail infrastructure the rest of the world has had for decades.

But not being able to pay one’s bills is not an indication of one’s driving ability nor ability to not crash one’s car. So my insureance bill shouldn’t be higher because I’m poor.

IMO what magnifies this is that while the general shapes are boring, they are clearly compensating for it by making everything that fits inside the regulatory box as angular and chiseled as possible. The humongous kidneys on BMW, the gaping maw on the front of every Lexus, it’s all terrible. Toyota’s entire design…

The entire insurance industry. Ok, so here’s this thing you’re legally forced to have. The idea is that if you crash into someone, this company can ease the pain of the parties involved. The company can pay for the broken cars, medical payments, property damage, and so on. Great, right?
