My example of him being great is how he’s barely in Casino yet he fucking kills every scene he is in. He was an incredible actor in his heyday, which makes his recent assholeness more upsetting. But hey, I idolized Eddie Van Halen as a kid and he is also apparently an asshole, so what are you gonna do.

I’m pretty sure that you’re dead inside.

I want to like “Leatherface”...and the trailer looks pretty good. But I won’t lie: I’m thinking it’s probably not going to be that good. I’ve never seen anyone get the vibe of sleazy despair and horror that is in the original 1974 version.

The song “Brown Eyed Girl” begs to differ, Sir.

I’d argue it’s definitely one of his lesser songs, and the bros have ruined it further. It’s not Petty (who was a genius songwriter) or the songs fault, but it is what it is. Now, good day Sir.

I’m with you on this: the break down part in “American Girl” and that end solo are fucking perfect.

This is the absolutely wrong answer, and you should feel bad for suggesting it. Thousands of shitty bar bands covering it have reduced it to a very annoying song: to say nothing of the bro-rock types giggling over the words Mary Jane.

I’m so old that my first memories of Robotech was on U68....a UHF channel.

I just found out about Toast of London a few weeks ago, and then I binge watched the entire series. All 7 episodes!

You got me beat by 11 years, and every word you say is still fucking accurate. He was a great artist, and by all standards a great guy as well. This is definitely heartbreaking.

I remember a Simpsons DVD commentary where they mentioned their writers room had a big debate on which President would win in a elimination fight contest: Lincoln if memory serves was the winner.

I’m hoping this leads to more adaptations of Terry Pratchett work personally. At least over here in the states.

Jon Hamm?

Great interview! But I do have to ask, did you get to ask him anything about Harry Dean Stanton? I would be curious as to directing HDS and the conversation from one character actor to another.

“Quiet you awful man!”

I feel like I’ve heard of that one before for some reason, but he had quite a few of those films near the end of his life: the odds of one slipping by is not impossible.

“Mom’s hot!”

Huh. I have a first edition of the Bachman books with Rage included (paperback though) but it’s also pretty worn, so I’m sure it’s worth nothing. Rage is a pretty great story however.

Everyone knows Young Frankenstein is his masterpiece, although you can argue it’s not as laugh out loud funny as Blazing Saddles.

While the man in the Yellow Hat is a terrible foster father, I’d be lying if I didn’t enjoy the new PBS series.
