The reference to forming a union dates it a bit.

What the hell is JLApe? Is that a citation style?

The left-wing version just doesn't hold up well in a post-apocalyptic scenario. "Enjoy all your organic and extremely perishable produce, hippies!"

That story was horrible! Did the guy have insurance? I mean, I'm not sure what kind of benefits usually come with beaver tour jobs. And then he flips the boat AFTER injuring the guy! Seriously, what a miserable kid.

It had some interesting parts but I thought it was very choppy. Tarantino has always been better with set pieces than with a film that naturally "flows" but the seams really showed in "Django."

Hmmm… Has your son already shown an ability to tell "real" from "not real" in watching other scary things? I know I was a pretty imaginative 7-year old and seeing the movie at that age probably would have freaked me out (seeing the "nightmare" sequence from T2 at 9 years-old REALLY freaked me out, didn't see "Jurassic

Man, now I really want to see Razorback, haven't seen that one in ages. Weird that a movie about a giant murderpig is probably (certainly) the lightest in tone of those listed here.

"The Straw Narrows" is a great way of putting it. I've found that my music tastes have gotten more specific in terms of sounds that I like, but I'm still able to find lots of new-to-me stuff. And not having the pressure to "keep up" with music (that feeling having dissipated right after college) has been extremely

Hell, even the Bible wasn't all that concerned with continuity and that's supposed to be all about canon!

I'm actually kind of curious where the comedy part comes in… Keep me posted!

I don't even know why the scientists make them

Now I'm imagining Jerry twisting the lyrics of the song for proselytizing purposes. "Have you embraced our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? You better think about it baby."

I didn't think he had any political affiliation at all, given the lack of any evidence of thought in his comedy. Now I'm thinking it was a missed opportunity that he didn't use this more.

What I love about classic Misfits is that they were genuinely crass and tasteless, and not like, cute horror-comedy.

Personally I loved "The End of the Affair", I didn't even know they had done a subpar film version of it.

Those are all great picks (I haven't seen "The Passenger" in ages, need to check that out again) and an excellent observation regarding "The Departed."

A pimp gets thrown through a windshield BEFORE the opening credits! I also have fond memories of this as a "lets rent this while Mom is out of town" bonding experience with my Dad.

I'll always have a soft spot for "Out For Justice", what with its beret-wearings and salami-beatings.

I thought "The Boys From Brazil" was pretty good. Of course his stay in that movie is brief…

Definitely. And the more understated parts of the film work really well I think (the sort of hurt, gentle courtship between De Niro and Streep's characters, the early male bonding scenes) which makes it all the more a shame that many of the bigger moments are, exactly as you say, so flat-footed and thudding.
