I haven't seen "Citizen X!" Took a quick look on Wikipedia and it seems both were based on real-life crimes in similar circumstances (not sure if they are referring to the exact same, as it seems "Citizen X" is referring to crimes from a later era). It does sound like very very similar territory.

I've been seeing lots of pans for this from sites/critics that I like, which is disappointing, because I think there is an interesting story idea in there somewhere. Like early 50's Soviet Union, they won the war, there is still propaganda out there that this is the Perfect Society, but the rot is starting to show…

*Checks financial success of movies featuring Iron Man* You might be onto something here…

Well, McDonald's marketing catchphrase before "I'm Lovin' It" was "Food, Folks, and Fun" so… *just trails off forever*

Seriously! You notice the terrible, terrible click-drums before it even occurs to you that there's no bass. Just a shit job all-around, Lars.

There was also a Leviathan about a Soviet-science created sea monster thing? It had Ernie Hudson in it, and the creature effects were not too bad if my childhood memory isn't lying to me (which it might be).

I have a distinct memory as a young child of going over to a friend's house who wanted to play Mouse Trap for real and not just mess around with the board. It really weirded me out.

I… well… some suggestions were passed along to me. But they certainly weren't beamed directly into my brain by lizard-like beings who created the human race for mysterious purposes and have been surreptitiously guiding it to a horrible reckoning/harvest ever since.

I non-ironically want to see a Dinesh D'Souza and David Icke Obama/Lizard person crossover. AND, in true crossover form, I want it be a comic. These are the things I want. I figured a Benghazi post would be the place to share that.

Well, two of them are my parents so that gets you (counts fingers) part of the way there.

I also like the bracket quotes there. Isn't that usually reserved for words missing in a quote that are… easy to assume? Like if somebody omits the word [the]?

I think a lot of this perceived "hedging" is the product of the reviewer's mindset as well (perhaps not necessarily in this particular case, I haven't seen this movie and couldn't say).

If you're going to listen to a Priest song that pairs nicely with Ace of Base, "Turbo Lover" is the one.

Well at least the inevitable Cliff Martinez soundtrack will probably be good. "Only God Forgives" is my current record holder in the important "Soundtrack to Movie Like-Gap" category.

This is a great point. Battleships: Very good at steady bombardment of fixed points, not so good at hot fleet-on-fleet action.

Whoa whoa whoa, how am I supposed to congratulate an eastern european gymnast after completing a successful routine? Just shake her hand?

I want this post to be the only thing that alien archeologists eventually find from our civilization.

It's generally considered apocrypha, though some scholars argue for its authenticity.

I used to watch it but then I noticed it going in a disturbingly History Channel-like Bigfoot huntin' direction. I have no idea whether it is still included in my cable package or not.

Just goes to show that talent in one medium doesn't necessarily translate to talent in others, such as talking or thinking.
