Heh, good point about the “debate” part of the statement. I’m definitely in the “Love” camp for Rogue One, if only for seeing the Ghost on the big screen. I’m also a huge geek for the pilots and droids of SW, so seeing astromech domes actually whirling about as the X- & Y-Wings are making their runs makes me grin like

Oh my god, was Ian McShane wasted! Frankly, so was Blackbeard as a character. I just want Disney to remake Blackbeard’s Ghost with McShane as Blackbeard, and Martin Freeman as the Dean Jones character.

Agree on ‘getting’ the sub-text that Luke and Biggs knew each other before Yavin (based solely on what we see on the screen). It’s difficult for me NOT to see those references/connections after so many viewings (not to mention consumption of a lot of ancillary material).

I liked it just fine. And every character who isn’t Jack Sparrow has a pretty decent story arc.

I find myself revisiting Solo just for the visuals. All the neat Star Wars gak in the background of basically every scene is just eye-candy to this SW fan. I’m also not so sure that it’s “the most debated” SW movie either (**cough**RiseofSkywalker**cough**)

Whoa

If memory serves, Lucas actually wrote the scene at the behest of producers/studio execs who wanted a different introduction to Luke. I personally love the scene, but it doesn’t work within the movie because it grinds the movie to a halt for a payoff that can be realized better later on. The best thing Lucas did with

The new Marvel comics make it reasonably clear that Owen believes his step-brother is dead. His love for his nephew is on full display too, which adds even more pathos to the Lars’s deaths.

I’ve found some really neat things by selecting the ‘Extras’ tab when viewing a movie’s details. All of the SW movies have deleted scenes and other interesting tidbits. There are also often previews or even the original theatrical trailers too.

Without going in to whether cheese is an appropriate fajita topping, I will share one of my own food foibles. I don’t care for corn IN things. On its own - be it steamed/buttered kernels, or just about any way on the cob (elotes!) - corn is great. I just find the presence of corn kernels in casseroles, rice dishes, or

Sounds like a good job for a 501st garrison - they are already well-accustomed to wearing masks, and have no trouble enforcing regulations :)

I bow to your superior knowledge, sir! In the absence of a ‘The More You Know’ gif, I substitute this safe and socially distant high five:

Weren’t they really obnoxiously vocal about how unhappy they were with Peter Jackson’s LotR movies? And now crowing about how the Amazon series is how it SHOULD be? Am I conflating that with something else (a possibility that I never discount)?

The “Mosh pit to minuet” may be the awesome-est analogy I’ve ever seen.

This may be an unpopular take, but even without the current pandemic, I had zero interest in going to see this. Nolan’s obsession with concept over storytelling no longer interests me as a viewer. The Prestige and Batman Begins are both quite good, but after that he kind of went the Shyamalan route, but with ‘big

What about the Tolkiens?

Interesting point about Facilier and the Voodoun (sp?) religion. I guess Mama Odie also falls into the “friendly magical negro” trope as well. Dammit, I can only be so woke. I’m not giving up any Keith David-voiced characters!

On its face, no, the ride doesn’t seem racist, but it doesn’t take much digging to spot the issues. First and foremost, the ride is based on a movie that Disney, as a corporation, has been distancing itself from since the late 70s. They did this because the movie basically presents black people as being nostalgic for

I also enjoy that song, but ONLY in the context of the ride. Like, I will listen that whole ride soundtrack and grin from ear-to-ear, but I can’t listen to the actual movie-version. I am fully on board with the re-theme, and there are tons of things that don’t need a lot of work (riverboat jamboree anyone?). Disney,

You gripe, but that welding still gives us the best line of the book: “My father loves me 366% more than anything else in the universe. Good to know.” Pretty sure I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the gist.
