Just Ranting

Small talk like taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilized society. As a young man I abhorred small talk but experience has taught me that while I might not consider it a must have it is very important for making other people comfortable around you. Plus it is quite superior to big talk!!

Sometimes if you get socially anxious you have a literal compulsion to make small talk. I’ll see the rest of you in group therapy, post this revelation it’s unappreciated. 😉

I feel like friendly small talk with the neighbors is a good thing, it’s how you can sometimes turn neighbors into friends who you can hang out with and who you can exchange help with (i.e. dog watching, mail and package retrieval, whatever).

Does anyone else just not get people that do this type of thing, like at all?

I know what you mean. I’ve been struggling with mental issues for a decade now and I continually meet people who have suffered far worse along the path than I have. I’ve tried to find a way to channel that but aside from donations, there seems limited paths available.
