It’s because he was a fan favorite back in the day, and then reached meme status in the leadup to Smash 4.

Dark Souls II is different. That can be good or bad depending. It’s unique in a lot of ways. The gameplay is different, but the overall feel and vibe of the game is different.  You can still tell it’s a Souls game, but it’s just weird, and I recommend it because it’s a good, intriguing kind of weird.

So while yes you parry a lot in Sekiro it’s nothing like Dark Souls parrying. If you just spam the block button you will party probably 85% of attacks.

Dark Souls III is my favorite in the trilogy. I think that if you enjoyed Bloodborne’s fast combat, you’ll enjoy DSIII. It’s really polished both aesthetically and technically, and the weapons/upgrade system is more comprehensible than in DSI in my opinion. Also, I feel that the areas and enemies are always fresh and

If you liked the pace of combat in Bloodborne you might prefer DS3 since it’s faster than the others. The flow of combat is similar.

Is DS II really connected at all?

I'd say DSIII over II.  Combat is a bit faster, little more polish, and I find the lore more interesting.  I replayed DSIII just recently and it just feels very bleh compared to the other ones.

I will say play DS2 before 3, just for the story's sake. There are throughlines that play out over the trilogy (along with a lot of smaller references).

I guess I could be way off, but for all the complaints you might read about either DS2 or 3, I’d be super surprised if you played either of them and were disappointed. Especially considering you can probably pick them up dirt cheap during a (likely) holiday sale any day now.

Basically I’m saying, don’t let any

Aside from the $70 remake for the hard-to-get console you don’t own, it feels pretty hard to give an iron-clad rec! Maybe some of the really insightful comments here will offer some useful guidance.

You forgot the Sky Temple, but I’ll let it slide just this once.

Ahhh, I love snow areas nearly as much as I love underwater sections, as long as they don’t fuck them up gameplay-wise (you know, weird controls and shit).

Hell yes, this is my favorite genre of Kotaku article. And Battlefront II is mentioned? Fuck yes. Hope Ethan or someone else hits us with the year in videogame skies later this month.

my favorite one by far is the Snowpeak Ruins from Twilight Princess, one of the best dungeons from the entire series. Three words:

Can’t wait to play Varric’s new new best friend.

that’s what all of Origins felt like tbh

I’ve really enjoyed the narrative of their games, much more than the actual... game portion of them, so this is exciting news.

Uh oh! Here comes Uncle Wario bringing his unsupportable opinions on the latest things he’s seen on Facebook! Who keeps inviting him anyways?

Wow, what a kind comment. I’m glad it was this that broke your comment silence, here’s to more!

This comment is making me tear up, fam
