I figure it falls back on laziness. Why bother designing for different body types and skin tones when you can sew a dress for the expected pale pole in your sleep?

When I look at runway models (and many print campaigns), what I see is that designers hate women and want them to almost literally disappear. They turn beautiful young women into golems with scary hollow eyes and horrifying hair and makeup.

This is the African themed party I prefer.

I don't see how thin people being thin and modelling is going to do anything for body diversity with respect to size. Grasping at straws with that statement, that's for damn sure!

Will this willingness to think outside of the box when it comes to what's "fashionable" eventually extend to seeing more ethnic diversity and more plus size models in fashion?

As mentioned in a few posts now, fashion is about selling insecurity.

That's the idea, though you can have different body types and races represented and still have the same effect. Larger figures wear certain clothes better than skinnier models and vice versa. Different skin colors show off different colors better. Like if I had a fashion show (I'm a seamstress and designer) I would

The condescending attitudes of some in this discussion is overwhelming. Just because your kids go to a "ghetto" school does not mean they will suddenly become a statistic. The lack of ownership in this thread is amazing. It is your responsibility to teach your children to love learning. I went to low income schools

My husband and I just made the decision to live in a more working class/middle class urban neighborhood instead of fleeing to the suburbs (much to a lot of our older friends/family confusion), even though we have a toddler and two more kids on the way. We intend to stay here for the long haul.

Lots of comments about how it's only natural that parents who can afford to move their kids to "better" school systems.

You've got to be kidding. This is your reason not to leave cities for suburbia?

Explains why all the biggest assholes live in the suburbs surrounding Milwaukee.

These families don't realize the huge disservice their children are receiving - A top performer at a struggling school is shown in a much brighter light than a mediocre performer at a great school.

I know how this is going to sound & I agree, it's cynical in the face of someone trying to do some good, but do we really have to hear a man talking about whats important to him? Again?

Yeesh. There's extensive feminist critique of all of Eve Ensler's work out there on the web, mostly focusing on its a) heterocentrism b) conventional gender stereotyping c) profound bias towards privileged feminist (white, urban, wealthy, western) concerns and d) commodification and inauthentic manipulation of the

All I could think about was.
"What about the WOMEN that have them?"

That is horrifying. You know who is allowed to ask me to shave? My husband. And even then, I may not do it, and there will be hell to pay if he asks the wrong way. For a boss to even mention your body hair is so far over the personal-boundaries line that I am appalled on your behalf.
