Well, let me offer this counter:

"Mental illness has a very specific colloquial definition largely informed by the legal definition. Developmental and learning disorders and disabilities are not generally considered mental illness, which is where you started."

True, but how many who aren't write giant manifestos?

You say his disorders were unrelated to his hatred. I am saying his actions were the result of both, and that his disorders need to be recognized and accounted for ahead of his hatred.

"It's not the entire population of cookies. It's the cookies in your area. You don't get to decide what the ratio is. Some areas have more laxatives and some have more arsenic."

That's an interesting choice of words. In chemistry, a catalyst aids in the consumption of a fuel. So we can say that his views were a catalyst, or the fuel... but not both. And not the most important issue at hand.

wrong stats. I have 350 million cookies. delicious cookies. a few million have a laxative, maybe even 5 million. And then there are a few thousand cookies with arsenic.

Ah, good point! But if Hitler had not hated the Jews, and had hated... I don't know... some other culture or ethnic group, the outcome might have been the same.

I mean... yay Europe? I don;t see how that is relevant (unless you live in Europe). We were discussing American culture, weren't we?

What? That doesn't make sense, and I have no pity for you. I empathize and sympathize. YOU are the one with the chip on your shoulder.

Fair enough. But my original point still stands. Focusing on his misogyny almost to the exclusion of his mental disorders is an inadequate treatment of the issue. And approaching it from the angle of his hatred first instead of his illness first is also inadequate.

I would take the word of a board of specialists over a lifelong sufferer of anything.

Or a lot of idiots want to jump on the bandwagon and piss other little red dots off so they can get some attention.

And I won't argue that. All I said is, it doesn't matter who he hated. All other things in his development and life being equal, he was likely going to kill someone regardless.

I advocated nothing except for people to stop focusing on the 'woman-hating' and start focusing on the fact that this person was ill. Nice try.

Well, he had Asperger's at the very least, and was seeing multiple therapists so there4 were likely other undisclosed issues. Also, despite the fact that some people on this thread would like to dismiss the classification of Asperger's as a mental disorder, the APA says otherwise. And they are more qualified to

I never said all mentally ill people hurt others. I said Rodgers was mentally ill, and that is what we should be focusing on.

But that is one of my points: All men who commit violence against women ARE, in fact, outliers. When compared to the total male population- setting aside prevailing cultural mores- the number of men who do things like this are the fringe.

Yes, you dissected my arguments.

Yes, I do. You, however, appear not to. I'm sorry you are afflicted with Asperger's, but I didn't classify it as a mental disorder. The American Psychiatric Association did.
