To me, this TfF song is greater than the sum of its parts. Over top of whatever each instrument is contributing there is an overall “mood” that is unique. Not all songs (not even all great, time-tested songs) achieve this. I put Sly & the Family Stone’s Frisky in this same category.
America hasn’t always been like this. But we’ve lost a lot of our pioneering and can-do spirit in recent years. We’ve allowed decision-by-committee (and decision-by-fear-from-aggressive-interest-groups) to be the only ways we make decisions.
I live in South America now, where I have to cope with words being either feminine or masculine. I shor do miss how much easier it is in the U.S. South where you can use "her" or "she" for everything.
To quote from the script:
She played the shy, nerd-girl perfectly.
Plaid shirt, wide tie. Damn you, '70s fashion.
I knew there'd be people like you who'd reply: You throw out a knee-jerk comment that ignores my point, but probably made you feel all warm and self righteousness on a Friday morning. Hyperbole before thought is exactly what I was talking about in my original post...and you demonstrated it!
Now Kathy has more time to pose naked. "Look at me!" "LOOK AT ME!"
If this article were written about America, the headline and first ten paragraphs would have pounded the RACISM! (tm) conclusion into the reader's head from the start. This article, however, attempted to describe, dispassionately, the source of cultural attitudes in Japan. Good job. Would that more journalists in the…
A "sex worker" is someone who "goes on dates for money"? I understand how SOME women are so destitute that they see no alternative to selling their bodies, but let's not use soft language that glosses over the fact that prostitution is bad on many levels and that women (and men) should not do it.
I recently moved from Washington, DC to central Argentina. The biggest adjustment was the language, of course, and the culture change was easy enough to learn. What continues to be a big issue with me is the adjustment from a large city to a smaller city. (I imagine it would have been similar had I moved to central…
I certainly wouldn't mind such luxury; I've been known to daydream. But if I had the money, my life would never "become a rap video". Please kill me if I ever became that crude and low brow. (Full disclosure: I would, however, likely fart on that fine English leather from time to time.)
An escalation in the Cavity Creeps' war on Toothopolis!
I trust you wear a beard guard while using your chainsaw. Safety first!
That interior looks really good. Except for the oak wood. Cherry or walnut, yes, but o me oak doesn't convey "refinement" in a car.
I've grown a beard, so I understand the desire to cultivate one's man-face. But in my opinion, any beard longer than 1/2 inch doesn't look like it belongs in the modern world. I'm not trying to be a troll, but long beards strike me as an antiquated throw back rather than a modern expression of facial hair. Just my…
They left out the mindfulness, Melanie. Is there any space left for some mindfulness?
Reader tip: Donuts are the closing clip during the last 10 seconds of the video.
I live in Argentina, and they make some goooood ice cream here. One of my favorite flavors — they I never knew existed before moving here — is marscapone. Isn't that like an Italian cheese, you ask? Why yes, it is, and it's delicious in ice cream form.
