I use Lightning Launcher to get a long, horizontal scrolling area. This is only the first page. I created other "pod" groupings for phone shortcuts, tools, games, etc. I use custom icons for everything.

I should clarify, so that no one wastes time in their answer. I know about the Android setting to "allow non-market sources". What I need to know is how do I install an apk file once I've downloaded it to my phone? Is it somehow automatic?
