The Mavericks presumably could have concluded this allegation is bullshit. Because it seems to be bullshit.

The purpose of prisons is not to correct anyone’s behavior. 

There is a colorable argument that this constitutes cruel and unusual punishment in violation of the Eighth Amendment. But it’s so odd that it would take someone very talented and creative to make that argument in a way that will stick.

That’s not really true. At least not the last part. Plenty of defense attorneys would stop short of accusing police officers of fraud in arguing a suppression hearing on a false search warrant affidavit. Especially in a place like Florida, where there is irrational respect for police officers.

I’m not sure if you ever took civics or have any idea how the American court system works, but the burden of proof is on the state. Just because a police officer enters a search warrant affidavit doesn’t mean the search warrant is valid. Cops lie on affidavits all the time and evidence is suppressed because of it.
