Yeah—I mean, war in Europe is unusual because in living memory, war in Europe is unusual.

Exactly. I mean, sitting here looking at this complicated situation and thinking is “Why don’t they just get her out???” is a pretty childish way of looking at this situation. Do they want to US to just rush in an grab her, Raid On Entebbe-style? Give Russia whatever they want to get her back? Are they assuming that…
If anything it can only make her situation worse, as Russian authorities will definitely see her as a valuable hostage worth keeping as a bargaining chip if Americans start freaking out en masse and demanding her release.
Was Amanda Knox in prison under Bennito Mussolini? Oh thats right she was in a country with some rule of law. I also forgot about Italy invading Greece at the time and posturing with all those nukes. Same exact situation.
Amanda Knox spent 4 years in prison, she was only let out because she had a re-trial, and she was found not guilty. No one rescued her, she had to wait for the Italian courts to free her.. she stayed in jail even after a different person was convicted for the crime.
Yeah, why is nobody thinking of Brittney Griner, who is Putin’s biggest victim in the world
The whole article smacks of American parochialism.
Almost certainly not. And we shouldn’t.
And no one seems to be explaining how they plan to get Griner the fuck out of there??
The political views here sometimes are like they’re coming from small children.
Do you expect the Army to go into Russia and get her? I mean it’s a middle of a super dangerous war where Russia has been sanctioned severely, she’s going to fall off the priority list. It’s a tough situation but so is the war, it’s not normal times.
“Hello there Mr Smith! I noticed you’d been tied up and tortured by burglars, and I thought now might be a great time to raise the issue of that time you borrowed my lawnmower and didn’t give it back for three weeks...”
It is a very American-centered approach, too. Actual Europeans are paying close attention to this because it is next door and a lot of them have legitimate fears that they will be next. It will be interesting to see how narratives shift as the Russian government runs out of money to pay its trolls.
Oh for fuck’s sake.
All of the Zelensky ‘thirst’ I’ve encountered has really just been men and women fawning over him for his tremendous leadership and bravery, which seems apt given the situation. And I spend way too much time fucking around on the internet, so I think I would know.
I don’t think I’ve seen ANY articles from you people covering this literal invasion/war. And then when you do post something, it’s shit like this. Good job, Jezebel; epitome of strong-hitting journalism.
I’m kind of embarrassed for you that you actually wrote this.
Oh groan. YOU SEEM FUN. The problem with the “enough already with this trend” angle is it’s not fun or entertaining or interesting so what is the piece even for if not one of those three things. Didn’t even stick an interesting vocabulary word in or bother to do a roundup of the more cringey examples. No effort, no…
What we don’t need is more pearl clutching moral scolds. Just fuck off already.
Is this “robust global anti-war movement” you want people to support the same global anti-war movement that spent the lead up to this blaming the victim and making excuses for Russian aggression? Because that’s what the bulk of the “anti-war movement” did
