The throwing in that we’re all racist because we a concerned about this was a hell of a curve.

I didn’t know progressive and American was synonymous with ignoring facts and ignorant hot takes! Though given the nonsense that you and others regularly post here, I shouldn’t be surprised.
“Our history teachers often taught us about the tragedies of pandemics and wars, but we were once naïve enough to think these things wouldn’t happen in our lifetimes”
:...but we were once naïve enough to think these things wouldn’t happen in our lifetimes...We were even more naïve to think they almost certainly would not happen simultaneously.”
According to NYC newspapers and local TV stations, Michelle Go’s killer first tried to push another woman (non-Asian). And Christina Yuna Lee’s murderer followed her into her building after she got out of the cab.
Really had to work in the white supremancy angle, huh? Yeah, these two women murdered by black men is a great example.
Jilted ex-lover paints her infatuation as problematic because nobody gives a flying fuck about her outside of her connection to him and deep down she knows it? Yep. Par for the course.
Imagine being so parasocial that a complete stranger’s personal life scares you.
Do you really believe, especially how a lot of men actually view women and are perceived to view women, that a lot of these men would stop with just “abusing” these bots? Because, if you are, you have far more faith than I do.

I don’t know. I hate chat bots. I find them obtuse and difficult to deal with. I allow myself to sound irritated and annoyed on the phone because…
“There’s a special place in hell for those middle-aged men who assault their chatbots,”
Do I think that abusing an AI will turn some software user into a physical abuser (physical as in “IRL”)? No.
Do you think the woman with the "healthy relationship" in the article will stop at abusing bots or will she keep a real girlfriend locked in her basement, forced to chat and flirt wherever she feels like it?
“it’s clear we need to identify abusive behaviors no matter who or what is on the receiving end.”
Frankly, both the focus and conclusions of this article are fairly baffling. A few initial notes, from someone who has likely explored this particular subreddit community more extensively than the author:
You can objectify people. You can't objectify bots since they are essentially objects.
Umm, I’m sorry. This article is stupid. An AI doesn’t have feelings. Doesn’t have rights. Doesn’t care if you yell at them, send them unsolicited dick picks, or cheat on them with another AI.
If this is like basically every other digital scare, people's bad behavior in the digital world doesn't translate to behavior in the real world. Violent games don't cause school shootings, GTA doesn't cause bad driving, etc.
Ultimately, just as we distinguish abuse from consensual sexual treatment of human beings, we can and should distinguish abuse from sexting with bots.
This is just a rehashing of the violence in video games begets violence in the real life, which has been roundly debunked. The opposite has been shown in that case in all studies done on the subject and I’m sure this would have similar results.
