Are English subtitles but original Czech sound ok? If yes, Czech Ebay sellers are your friend! I doubt that it was ever dubbed. Tell them it is worth reading subtitles! :-)

Sorry for the late answer. It's not really a more traditional version than just a very unusual version. I just looked it up because I didn't know where it came from, but apparently it was based on the book by a 19th century Czech female writer, Bozena Nemcova. I never had hear from her before, but she sounds quite

Is it a more traditional interpretation (i.e. more bloody Aschenputtel and less blah Disney)?? There'd a video store in my town that specializes in foreign/rare movies, I once rented the entire Sissi saga from them! (I'm in Canada, so that was a lot of fun to find!)

Depending where you are, a gift card to an independent bookstore is an awesome present because it's so fun to go and browse, so it's more of an event than just ordering offline, AND you support independent businesses.

See my response above to the OP...I linked a previous discussion with some potential online places to watch it. :)

Yes! Someone mentioned this film the last time that a Cinderella trailer was posted here on Jezebel (discussion here). I asked where to view it online and the OP responded with a few potential links. It seems extremely hard to find. I haven't tried to watch it yet but I'm really glad you posted your comment since it

ah, when shitty family relations bring people 2gether

I'm guessing not - I've been FB chatting with my sister off and on all day about how much we hate our mother. lol

oh wait, there it is. So clued in on this exchange ;) I love taking time off over the holidays and catching the flu!

Ah! I just noticed that I failed to provide a book recommendation: I loved Children of the Self Absorbed.

lol, my sister and mom are BFF.

Probably not, my sister and my mom get along great!

wait, are you my sister?

I love this comment! My mom also assumed we would just magically become BFFs once I became an adult (completely ignoring my childhood dynamic with her). We also had it out over it but unfortunately, I never felt like she actually got it. Good for you for standing up for yourself!

I have a similar issue with my mother. She was an authoritarian parent growing up, and she ruled our house with my father. She then wanted my sister and I to be her best friends once we grew older, and live next door to her or some shit.

ALWAYS WITH THE LIES!

And the lying! Why do they have to lie??

oh DEWD! There's an awesome reddit board called "raised by a narcissist" but I will warn you, it's a big trigger. There's another book called "walking on eggshells" that offers strategies for maintaining healthy contact. It really sucks to have a mother that is borderline.

I think I might have to get a copy of that book. My mother is a borderline as well, and more of her antics came to light on Christmas (namely, that she told a bunch of off-the-wall lies to my MOTHER IN LAW to make me look bad).
