Honestly I think some of it (not all; most is just plain evil selfishness) is that some people think that if we were to go to Universal healthcare, our rates would remain this high. They honestly don’t get that it’s the insurance that is setting the rates, not the doctors.

It really is pure selfishness. In fact, that’s the one thing every American I’ve ever spoken to has in common, the deep-seated desire not to give a single penny to anyone that isn’t family or close friends. They’d rather go bankrupt then pay extra taxes that will go to something they’re not immediately benefiting from.

I’m partial to the story of when he was on the Mets and saw John Olerud wearing a helmet while playing first base and said “When I played in Toronto, there was a guy who played first base while wearing a helmet”. Olerud replied. “Rickey, that was me”

I’m a fairly radical liberal, yet also believe in being moderate ~ And I am 100% for Socialized healthcare and education. What we’re looking at is the values of the culture, and right now the US value system is off base. We currently prioritize money, consuming, products, and intense stimulating media. Oh and War. We

Mainly, the power of messaging and propaganda fueled by lots and lots of money, and campaign bribes to officials by corporations with a lot to lose is what keeps the debate at such a stupid level. As a practical matter, people of all political stripes who have Medicare (for elderly people, most of who have paid into

Most Americans are actually for universal healthcare, it just depends on how the question is worded.

So, while only “33 percent of poll respondents said they favor a single-payer system,” some, “60 percent of Americans surveyed said the federal government is responsible for providing healthcare coverage to all

America is the land of “fuck you, I got mine”. We are selfish assholes who don’t like sharing our toys, especially with people we think don’t deserve them.

There are a lot of people who would like Universal Healthcare in America. It was one of the major reasons Bernie Sanders did so well in the primaries.

No, not everyone is against public health care. It’s just that the people against it are the more vocal.

Because a large number of Americans see themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires. They vote accordingly for the politician who will do the most for the millionaire class, which they see themselves as a potential part of.

I’ll support single healthcare because it’s looking to be the better option than what the shit we have going on now. BUT!

Many (Most?) Americans are VERY into the Just World theory.

Let’s use the American VA services as an example of how the US Government does things health care related. The VA only supports a small portion of the population and yet vets have died waiting to receive medical care. The quality of care received might be good but it can take months for them to be seen by a doctor.

Because while public health care is a great idea, it’s not going to sell. There is already a healthy insurance industry providing coverage to a large majority of the American populace. Logically and rationally the best path in the US would be to create a more robust public option (increase Medicaid) and better

“Are people in the US so hung up on paying into a system that benefits all people equally instead of just themselves.”

Not true, we are ready for it. I hope I live to see the day that we have public health care.

Brainwash their base... or follow the Constitution.

I wouldn’t say American Democrats are against public health care. I don’t know where you get that.

Plenty are against public health care, it’s just that with the Republicans controlling the Congress all of the Democratic elected officials shoot for incremental change. Whether that strategy has been successful or not I’ll let you be the judge.
