You’re correct, but you’re missing the bigger picture.

My only concern at this point in time:

are against public health care

#1 and #8 are pretty much verified fact.

Great list of the poor excuses. It is just the way this crowd goes about the most difficult & painful way of progressing. The civil war to abolish slavery, for profit healthcare in lieu of universal or single payer health care. They have also made great strides despite the anchor from the rightwing. Progressive is

Brainwashing.

“Are people in the US so hung up on paying into a system that benefits all people equally instead of just themselves.”

It’s all of it plus a dash of selfishness. “I made my money by working, why should I pay for some lazy, drug addicted person’s healthcare!” Meanwhile they are doing that exact thing through their own personal healthcare whether they have it through work or they buy their own policy.

If you need important surgery (or any other immediate treatment - say cancer treatment) in Canada you get it immediately. If you need an elective procedure done, then yeah, there’s sometimes a wait.

Yeah, but the “leeches” are already getting health care! Medicaid already takes care of them...pshhhh (middle class individual somewhere gets cancer - goes bankrupt - dies).

Because most Americans still have reservations about the concept of “the common good”. This is a culture that glorifies individualism and self-determination. Look at the way we drive - we don’t use our turn signals, ‘cos we know where we’re going - who gives a crap about anyone else? Why do I need to turn on my

Very true and very sad. This is especially true of the Alt-Right where rejoicing over pyrrhic victory (i.e. Charlie Sheen style “Winning”) is celebrated. They don’t care if Trump screws them. They only care if Trump screws their enemies (i.e. anyone who does not share their views) harder.

And because we have a proud tradition of being willing to stand knee-deep in pigshit so long as someone else has to stand in it up to their necks. That’s why you have poor whites voting for the likes of Trump: They’re OK with losing their benefits so long as those Brown People lose theirs, too.

It just seems so fucking, for lack of a better word, selfish.

Lots of people like the idea but recognize that it’s hard to get to. Our mphysicians make a LOT and our care tends to use more expensive gear and tests. Cost is a very non-trivial concern but you have to consider how disruptive it would be in general. A lot of organizations you need on your side (AMA, insurers, device

I don’t mind helping others for the sake of them having healthcare. It’s the leeches that bother me. Can you punish the children of the leeches? I would argue that’s ridiculous and doesn’t make sense. I think the problem is that we have quite a bit of people who will abuse the situation at the soonest opportunity

Because it’s a terrifying assertion of power for the government to be able to force you to buy a product of a private corporation (in this case health insurance). It’s especially macabre when Obamacare makes you buy health insurance but then doesn’t actually make that insurance cheap enough to actually afford it. So

“From most things I hear,”

There is no good reason.
We are collectively stupid and impressionable.
