I think there’s often something inherently fatphobic about the suits. Especially here, it feels like it’s played for a gag.

It’s not an immutable characteristic, but it’s hard enough being a plus-sized actor when their roles aren’t being played by thin people in fat suits.

I don’t think a fat suit is inherently problematic. Sometimes actors have to use makeup or prosthetics to look like the character they’re playing. That’s part of the job, and saying that they should hire an actor who looks more like the character isn’t a logical solution every time.

I’m definitely sympathetic toward the fat acceptance arguments, but I mostly I hate putting thin actors in fat suits because said fat suits always look fucking terrible and ruin verisimilitude.

What was going through the heads of the show creators on this one? They HAD to have known there would be controversy over the casting. Did they just figure they’d roll the dice and hope folks wouldn’t notice?

I can’t wait to hear all the new songs like “Whistle While You Protest For Fair Labor Practices” and “Someday My Prince Will Rob Me Of My Agency.”
