The Darby-Donk pairing was wonderful. I loved that episode all around. It was one of those low-key, comfortable CBB installments that won’t get a lot of love come “Best Of” season but still ranks among my personal favorites.

I wouldn't have guessed dueling Vincent Price impressions from Paul F. Tompkins and Grant Lee Phillips was something missing from my life, but such are the surprises of Spontaneanation fanhood.

Agreed. The improv portions have gotten way more accessible as the show has gone on. There are still some confusing quagmires from time to time (which I still enjoy) but as all the players have learned each other's beats the narratives on the whole have become less ragged. If you don't care for long-form it's probably

Lauren's at least brought her half back for a couple of ad-reads but I want more. They'd make great CBB guests.

I’ve come to get more excited about episodes heavily featuring Engineer Brett than I do about any outside guests. The dynamic of abuse those three have established is endlessly hilarious to me.

I remember reading that Hackman really wanted to change the line to "Satchmo" but Anderson held his ground. I'm glad. "Coltrane" comes off as inscrutably racist, whereas "Satchmo" would just sound straight-up racist. The difference between an asshole and a son-of-a-bitch, I suppose.

This sounds like a road trip waiting to happen. Maybe I can do a suburban circuit and pay another visit to the Bill Paxton Pinball machine afterward.

I feel kind of the same way. I was lucky enough to see it in a theater, albeit in the worst seat in the house - the far right end of the front row - and I still remember the swell of exhilaration that welled up in me about three words into Alec Baldwin's narration and didn't ebb for hours after I left the theater. I

Those were both incredible episodes. My personal favorites are probably Eliza Skinner, Adomian as Tom Leykis, Joe Wengert (that's a character duo I'd love to see come back on other shows) and of course the PFT installments. Oh, and Teacher's Lounge with Big Grande.

Yeah, Glenn, I guess it is kinda funny.

As a Minnesotan I’m always interested in historical Mall of America anecdotes, so I was pretty pleased with Kulap’s interview on this week’s Spontaneation. The short, unhappy life of Hulk Hogan’s Pastamania! is legend around these parts and it was great to hear an insider’s perspective – and of course even greater to

Thanks for the tip. I don't always make space for With Special Guest in my regular rotation but it's usually first in my roster of "gotta catch up with that one" podcasts.

The latest Improv4Humans was a little body-function heavy for my tastes, but it was more than worth it for Charlie Sanders doing stand-up for cats.

She's so good at casual cruelty that's somehow endearing.

I liked that he pulled in several characters who he's been "auditioning" in his Spontaneanation ads over the past few months, Sam Elliott being another one. I have no idea where Big Chunky Bubbles came from, but I hope he returns somewhere soon.

Even if the Comedy Bang Bang tour hadn’t been almost uniformly great, the introduction of Big Chunky Bubbles at the first Portland show would have justified the entire endeavor. I can’t recall the last time a new character made me laugh so hard.

Tommy Lee Jones's line reading on "I'll just get my gear" is one of the most chillingly blank things I've heard in a movie.

The day after I listened to that, my son randomly hypothesized that "Grayson" would be a good name for a grey cat. It took me a while to figure out why that was so familiar and once I did I was deeply creeped out.

I know Hanford’s a pro, but it does seem rather like his last-minute addition to the tour left him scrambling for character ideas. That’s not a complaint, though, so long as it leads to stuff like Scott grilling him for five minutes about why he got drunk in a restaurant instead of a bar.

Oh yeah, this past month has been nothing but classics. I’m very excited about the return of Open Mike Eagle on today’s episode too.
