I feel like I’m declaring every new episode of Spontaneanation a contender for best ever, but good god, Jon Hamm wandering around a storm drain in both real life and improv world was a thing of beauty. Not to mention PFT’s incredible opossum story.

I was at that one. Going in, Pamela wouldn’t have been my first choice of Lapkus characters to see live, but the slumpy, defensive body language she adopts for that role won me over immediately.

Other highlights from this week of CBB Live included the introduction of Al A. Peterson the Smooth Criminal, Peter Serafinawicz as Alan Alda auditioning to play Princess Leia, and my personal favorite, PFT and Lapkus briefly slipping into their Dead Author’s Podcast characters and leaving Scott baffled.

I’m willing to give the movie the benefit of the doubt and grant that the wall-to-wall misogyny is at least partly satirical, but that really doesn’t make it any easier to stomach. And it certainly doesn’t make up for the film as a whole being dull and incoherent. I watch and enjoy a lot of old movies that could be

I personally find it weirdly endearing listening to professional funny people try to keep a straight face, but if you’re averse to that kind of mouth-noise Hollywood Handbook is going to be a tough one (as is any Matt Gourley project).

I dig that they’ve been working in hometown guests like Tarver in Atlanta and Michelle Biloon in Philadelphia. Wondering who they might pull in here in Minnesota. Maria Bamford will be busy plugging her new show, but there are a few Earwolf regulars from here, including the Widow Howl-app herself.

I like that Lapkus and PFT have been bringing in characters from outside the CBB sphere. The Contraptionaire turning up in Georgia was an especially nice surprise, especially since the crowd clearly knew his backstory better than Scott did.

Yeah, if you have an aversion to the Eban Schletter element, that's probably going to be a deal-breaker. I personally am endlessly impressed at how quick-witted Eban is at working in musical references and tracking the tone of the improv.

I rewound that bugs line at least four times. The ease with which those guys translate English into their own very particular brand of semi-gibberish is amazing.

It was a little weird to listen to a Spontaneation Christmas episode in the middle of May, but Ron Funches can sell me on just about anything. His cameo during the improv as a ghost supervisor was pristine. Folks who’ve checked out on the show after finding the improv scenes too messy should really check back in on

A damp squab, on the other hand, makes me madder than a wet hen.

I've been keeping up with the tour very well to this point, but I'm worried I'm going to fall behind before seeing it live on Thursday. This block of NYC shows is messing with my schedule something fierce.

I do sometimes wish they took more care in matching the movie with the guest – it seemed pretty evident that Natasha Leggero wasn’t going to connect with something like Hell Comes to Frogtown - but I suppose the unpredictability of people’s reactions is part of the fun. Plus this movie is a singular challenge. I’m a

I have a bookseller friend who used to amuse himself by forging Charles Baxter's signature on any Charles Baxter book that came through his shop. He started with autographs and worked up to bizarre personal inscriptions like “To a little friend, thanks for referring me to Dr. Casper. He is a wonderful podiatrist. I’m

There are times when CBBTV feels like it's Neil's world and Scott's just living in it (which is by no means a complaint). Those bits are the prime example.

I'm hoping to find that out myself, as I'll be second row center with my wife who's been moderately amused by a couple of episodes but likes PFT a lot. Thankfully I think we're in good hands with this lineup of performers.

I could also have gone with "You took down our Banner."

Gourlund reluctantly telling their engagement story and then working it into the improv was adorable as heck.

Besser and crew are so skilled that they almost undercut themselves in these situations. They mocked this audience repeatedly for their awful suggestions, explained exactly why said suggestions were awful, and then went ahead and made hilarious scenes out of them anyway.
