"Yeah, well I would rather be a doofus from Hanover than a doofus from French Lick because everyone from Hanover knows that French Lick is the doofus capital of Indiana! Of course everyone from French Lick thinks it's Hanover. Fuel of a raging
controversy."

I went to high school in Sparta, Wisconsin. It's a terrible place with a few claims to fame: the radio station is called WCOW, two major bike trails cross through the town, Apollo astronaut Deke Slayton grew up there, and the factory outside of town that makes giant fiberglass animals has an awesome "fiberglass

Saint Paul was originally named after a pub too (the original name was
Pig's Eye), but then the Christians came along and screwed it up.

Also AV Club Undercover favorites JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound.

Ah, there are those racial slurs…

But oh, the babies they'll make!

@avclub-41a9c6014f10b08a8e0f77e3d8ac53ea:disqus I was exactly 12 in 1991 and remember liking it a fair bit when I saw it in the theater. That said, I have absolutely no recollection of anything specific from the film, and I never felt compelled to watch it again, so it couldn't have made that much of an impression.

Hell, I'd call Regulate a minor classic of '90s hip-hop. Warren might not be the strongest rapper, but the album is well produced, atmospheric as hell and overall a great snapshot of the G-Funk era.

Don't forget Cop and a Half's Henry Winkler!

I'd even go so far as to call her my second favorite Banger Sister.

Yeah, I saw this at my local rep house probably 12 years ago (RIP Oak Street Cinema) and it's definitely stayed with me, if somewhat hazily. Although I was pretty certain Clu Gulager was in it and he apparently was not. Seems like the type of thing Clu Gulager should be in.

I've always wondered if that was intentional, just because it's so glaring that I can't imagine nobody calling it out or correcting it.

Lou Reed plays a jaded record producer!

He deemed it too derivative of Michael Findlay.

I might chalk the Mallrats one up to no one wanting to listen to Jeremy London speak any more than was absolutely necessary.

@avclub-920530cb8744c679e3a2ece84f1d5ce4:disqus I've seen Footmen and it's glorious indeed. I especially like the idea that free candy from Castro is one of the most dangerously alluring appeals of Communism. Darktown I've not seen but I keep hearing about it and will need to set aside the time.

I'm probably going to have to buy Godmonster because Frederic Hobbs has piqued my interest something fierce. I also genuinely love Christopher Brooks' acting. Between Alabama's Ghost and Sun Ra's Space is the Place he's been in two of the greatest insane movies I've seen this year.

Nope, Footmen is a filmed Estus W. Prikle sermon and is insane on a whole different plane than Alabama's Ghost. Both are must-sees, of course.

Please please please someone get to work on casting Christopher Plummer in a Roman porn film right this minute.

How fucking tragic is Keith Carradine in that? I cry every goddamn time.
