I think part of it is that items on a registry can sometimes look like "needs" rather than "wants", whereas a vacation is generally considered a "want".

I agree with you that it's a little gross, but (a) the other stories that have any physical revenge component are a little "gross" (by which I mean, probably kinda wrong) too, and (b) it's pretty understandable that greenpig had this kind of reaction.

I think she just said "obviously" because she was responding to a comment saying "please explain Thot to me, I know what it stands for so don't just say that". So she wax acknowledging that what it is an acronym for was information the first commenter already had.
