Perhaps you don’t realize just how absolutely mind-bogglingly big space is and just how little, yet at the same time, how much there is in a universe. Even with instant travel (which it is not btw, hyperspace travel between planets still takes a bit), we still wouldn’t have explored even a tiny fraction of the universe…

Agreed. The macguffin-chase was much more satisfying than TFA, and I had a much better notion of the stakes (partly because these were initially established by Dawson’s screen premier as live-action Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian.

I think the map part of the story is done (or at least not especially meaningful) after episode 2. All of the principals know where the map leads to by then. There’s still the actually getting there part, but that looks like it’s being dealt with.

As with Hillary’s “deplorables” or even Obama’s “guns and religion” comments, the real issue they have with it is because they know deep-down he’s absolutely right (stupid metaphor or not).

I read it as “having no direction of their own”? Of course they’re insulted because they know it’s actually true. Still, it’s a pretty tortured metaphor.
