but is a terrible choice if he plans on his kids getting any bigger than they currently are at 5 and 8, and still wants them to fit in the back seat. Come to think of it, the 8 year old might not even fit anymore already. those seats really only exist for tax/insurance purposes, not for actual passengers. 

Unless you mean an 8ft bed, there has been an option for an extended cab long bed or a crewcab long bed up until next year. This is just the last hurrah for the outgoing 31xx model, so they’re reducing configurations to reduce production costs, and maximize profits before bring in the next generation

They never said it’s a complete redesign. This is the last hurrah of the outgoing 31xx model before bringing in the next generation. Hence ditching all the body/bed configurations and just maximizing profits
