Normal Saturdays, I work the graveyard shift as a baker, but our city is moving to lockdown on Monday. Restaurant services are reduced to takeout and delivery, which cuts my hours to the point that I’m online, checking out this thread for the first time in ages.

I just turned 49 and I’m in perimenopause, which, in my case, shows some cognitive decline.

Years ago, when I worked in a Ford foundry, there was this old guy, who lied about his age so that he could keep working. Every now and then, we saw him go out on a stretcher. He’d be back later, though. I imagine he planned on dying on the foundry floor instead of retiring.

Society need to develop programs to help people transition into retirement.

Nobody does Lisbeth Salander like Noomi Rapace. I will say that I remember Kate Mara’s character in Brokeback Mountain. 

I’ll say, I didn’t even know who she was until I googled pics of her and then it was, ah, one of the House of Cards actresses (which I haven’t watched, just taken in via social media osmosis).

I have 2 friends who both lost sons at an early age. I don’t know how they carry on. I was there when they took the life support off for one and ... 

I’m so sorry. I hope her surviving kids find the support to get through this. 

I’m guessing 75% would see it as literally taking the funding away. Has Jimmy Kimmel done a street poll of it yet?

They worked - I’m a Canadian who doesn’t even live in America and I remember the ‘Yes we can!’ slogan. 

A few days ago, a woman who appeared to be intoxicated and dealing with mental health issues went into the local cafe where I work. The kitchen manager tried to pacify her, offer her water/tea/whatever, a taxi ride where she needed to go... I came in and he pulled me aside, saying, ‘who do we call? what can we do for…

No money means no police. 

Yes! Defund the police means no $$$ for the police in the ears of many, including cops who refused to go out for their shifts a few months back in response to the movement.
