They did sold a shit ton at launch and they are a company of only 25 employees. The cost to produce the game and all of those free update is a lot less than a major company like Square-Enix. Like someone else said, they probably made enough money that they can continue to work on those free updates.

Well Funcom just got bought by Tencent. Wouldn’t surprise me if Tencent made them change the game to have more predatory microtransactions.
