There’s no excuse to deliver a bunch of unreliable press cars. It’s literally the bare minimum to ensure the press cars keep running throughout the test. They flunked a totally game-able test.

The truly sad thing is it seemed like they nailed it for the most part on the engine and suspension, it’s the damn electronics that are fully integrated that have caused most of the issues I’ve read about. If they’d kept the engine ECU separate from the rest of the systems it would probably be fine.

Which is sad because it only had to meet the low expectations that BMW has set, because that’s who would have cross shopped it. I thought to myself “it can’t be that unreliable” but after reading 5+/7 articles saying the press car they got broke down or the ECU bricked itself I really couldn't even make that argument…

My sister who is far from a Jalop loved this conecpt and was excited to buy one 2 years ago, after the delays she ended up going with a Nissan Rogue AWD. That gives you an idea of who the target market is for this -- people who want some utility from their vehicle and like the idea of a truck but don’t need to tow.

I felt bad about my ‘77 Fiat with a never worked over engine burning a quart per thousand miles, like huh, maybe my rings are going, until I saw BMWs ‘tolerable’ oil consumption ratings. Even better, going to the factory 20W (basically diesel oil) on the Fiat dropped it to 1qt/2k miles.

Someone actually brought one of these out to the last AutoX I went to, sounded Divine, driver couldn’t manage to get within three seconds of the Fit someone brought though. To be fair the Fit driver is a beast and I think it was the Mazzy driver’s first time... And God forbid he push it and risk hitting a cone!

I thought I was the only V20 fan! That's kinda cool there's a following now. A V6 with a set of coilovers and the rare 5 speed could be a lot of fun I'd imagine. And truly built to last forever. Mine was a DX with the 6cyl, but the slushbox killed a lot of the fun. Still ripped for it's era. 

Yeah, the 4cyl closed the gap quite a bit by 1990, I want to say my Toyota had 160hp out of the 2.5L V6, not bad for it’s era, but the 4cyl was pretty capable for that era with 130hp and only weighed about 2800-3k lbs based on trim. The 4cyl would be vastly easier to work on and maintain, so it might be a better used…

That’s a fair criticism I’d say, it definitely feels overproduced, but it’s at least not completely dull like the last record.
