Nit picking, but you have to account for inflation, which puts the original cost in about $78,000. Still very cheap compared to the price now, but 2008 prices are a little deceiving.
136hp or 170hp options? Geez, my base 2006 Impreza had 178hp and i wouldn’t call it speedy. Passing on rural roads took some planning. Yes yes, speed isn’t everything... but it IS EVERYTHING when trying to merge or pass safely.
Geez, in Ontario it wouldn’t legally be allow on inter city parkways which are a minimum 50mph.

Its really sad that my 2006 Impreza Base has 178hp. Crosstrek is a nice idea, but its definitely going backwards in performance (or just general power comfort). Passing on rural roads in my Impreza takes some forethought, I couldn’t imagine passing too many in the Crosstrek!
The argument was more, I did it in my youth and it worked fine, why shouldn’t it work for my kids today. We’re not talking lead paint here, just car size.
